This will be a huge hit for many Pinterest marketers, although affiliate marketing is not the only way to monetize Pinterest, but I am quite assured that affiliate marketing is the most popular way to monetize the website.

We are removing affiliate links to ensure we're providing the best possible experience for Pinners. Recently, we observed affiliate links and redirects causing irrelevant Pins in feeds, broken links and other spammy behavior. We believe this change will enable us to keep the high bar of relevancy and quality Pinners expect from Pinterest."

I remember reading that over the weekend. They've basically just killed affiliate marketing.

It does coincide with them introducing their new 'buy now' button, so I think this is part of their own monetization strategy.

Not a good day for affiliate marketers but a good move by Pinterest.

I searched for similar threads before I created mine, but the search results was flooded with Healzer's bullshit threads so those thread you linked was hard to spot, I apologize for reposting.

No problem Mate, I do it all the time.

Definitely a smart move from Pinterest, clearing away the competition for their own monetization process.

Pinterest has been banning affiliate links for a long time.. any amazon.com/product/234234/?tag=affiliate gets dropped to amazon.com/product/234234/ automatically, not sure what exactly the change is?

Yeah, I thought they were doing this already but I still saw a lot of rstyle.me links. I knew those were aff links, but for some reason, were still allowed to be posted. Maybe it was just Amazon aff links that they had initially banned and now catching up to others.

Basically if you were doing what you knew you should be from the beginning, which is linking to your site and not directly to the affiliate than nothing will change for you.. I'm pretty sure most affiliates don't look kindly on redirects or spamming their links.

So if you have a e-commerce site which is an affiliate do you think you would be at risk?

I was only using Pinterest as backlink to my money site so this doesn't really bother.

In all honesty it makes a lot of sense. R.I.P. to Pinterest Marketers.

You can use the landing page, if pinterest main domain blocking your affiliate network

Pinterest first banned all my cloacked links (bit.ly, ifttt, goo.gl) and a week ago banned my account due to violation of term and conditions. And that was for adding direct (mylikes with own domain) and indirect affiliate links (a landing page with redirect href to an amazon product).
