Some say you should ping your backlinks. Others say you should let google find them naturally. Why can no one ever agree on this? I see alot of people pinging then either getting penalties or sanboxed. Wouldnt it be safer for google to find them naturally? Or is there a chance they will never find them. Whats the deal?!

to make backlinks naturally i ping only a part of them. i ping my web 2.0 property links, bookmark them. forum backlinks - no ping. directories are mixed. and i do backlinking manual and very slowly for new sites. so i have the best results (alexa rank for one site from 1.400.000 to 600.000 in 6 weeks). i use no software (i get paid $30 per hour). ;-)

It depends what your doing really.

For example, some people build 10k or 20k Xrumer profile links and ping them all at once - this is bound to raise some sort of suspicion!

However, if you built 20 web2.0's, and backlinked these, and pinged all the links, this in my opinion won't hurt your main site.

Like anything, it depends what your doing in the first place as to whether pinging your links can have positive/negative impact, and also the general link velocity of your site.

My mother always taught me to be patient. So I apply this lesson to IM - I always let google pick up my backlinks naturally since eventually they will be indexed/crawled anyway. Could take weeks though, but hey, SEO takes time

I never ping anything, for 2 reasons:

1 - It doesn't make anywhere near as much difference as people think. You think that just buy pinging a link Google is going to crawl it straight away and index it? No chance.
2 - SEO, in 99% of cases, is a long term game and should be treated that way, because of that, it's good to let Google find your links naturally so it can gradually come across them and keep your link velocity steady.

Well, some links may never get crawled. SB links I let google find them naturally or someone else will ping them. AMR I SB them to get crawled. Web 2.0 sites I bookmark them then ping the bookmarks. Manual high pr blog comments I will let goog find them on its own. I also put in any AMR link into linklcious just in case

I would love to see some evidence to show that pinging a link and doing nothing else will get it crawled / indexed, I'm not talking about a new blog post either.

    Take a guess
Crawling and indexing are two completely different things. It's like the dooman and the club.

You need evidence to show that pinging will get your link crawled? Just ping your site and see for yourself. It won't get it indexed of course, that's Google's choice after they see (crawl) the links content.

True, in my experience pinging on its own is not enough to get your content indexed, Google usually needs more of a reason to index content (i.e. backlinks).

The answer is literally somewhere in the middle.. its not rocket science, just stagger it out, use your common sense, and be reasonable.. I find a lot of the answers to these threads are a matter of common sense

Like some have said.. Building 1000s of raw backlinks then pinging a list using 200+ proxies is NOT a good idea post panda - times are changing and you'll waste more time and money doing this than you'll get out of it.. That's saying a lot considering campaign blasts are relatively automated

IMHO, I think its better to build back links on your backlinks than to ping.. lot more long-term gain from it

Note, for all those that buy blasts on fiver, I would recommend you tell the seller not to ping your pages

I hardly notice any effect after pinging as well and after PANDA pinging can hardly do any wonder...

Just mix them up, ping some of the links that are from high PR directories like Web 2.0 sites. Apart from that the links from other submission sites like forums and bookmarks and articles are left for the SE to discover naturally.

For me - ping and natural - both are not good. I build a blog with pubsubhubbub and create some posts and add 5-7 links per each post. Posts are indexed within minutes and links within post are indexed within few hours. :) Majority of links like profile links won't be indexed naturally. You should help Google a little bit :)

Well i see a question like this every week....
If you are making backlinks which can be found really hard by search engines(profile backlinks) than ping them,or index them somehow, but if you make high PR backlinks..there is no reason to ping them.

I have only recently started to use linklicious and to be fair I've not seen any benefit from it.

Also not to go off topic, but it amazes me that Google even bothers with profile links. There can't be any thing gained from using them as a signal.
