This may sound stupid, but i will ask anyway. Is it safe to use pictures from amazon (hosted on my domain) to promote amazon affiliate product? What about other big guys such as buy.com,overstock and similar large stores?

Pictures will be downloaded from directly from amazon product page, not from from my affiliate account?

I know everybody is doing this. But, legally could this fall into Fair use? And also i consider that merchant has to be an imbecile to sue someone who helps him to sell the product.

Also if i want to create for example videos slideshows from these images, would that be ok?

Not really for sure if I understand the question totally, but amazon will give you the affiliate code for the image to put on your page. I have a landing page with only amazon images with no text at all that has my affiliate code in the link, so if you came to my page and clicked on the image it would take you to amazon.

If for what ever reason you really didn't want to use your own affiliate code you can still put image on your site and have it hosted from amazon and it won't be clickable just a static image just like if it was hosted on your page. This is also called hot-linking and I know a few people with blogs that have been this for months with now problems from Amazon.

example code: remove the * from the link.

    h**p://ecx.images-amaz*n.c*m/images/I/31FHVbt2bYL._SX342_.jpg

As for it being fair use, I wouldn't think so. But like you said everyone is doing it. I still think hot-linking would be safer because the image is on there server not yours, so technically you have not stolen their image and I'm sure you could still make a slide show with the type of link I posted above.

    Hope this helps!

Download them to your site and upload them and slap your AFF link in. You want to avoid linking to Amazon as much as possible. Doesn't look good for SEO and load times.

You understood that ok. I know u can hotlinks, or upload the picture directly. I also know , a self-hosted image is better for seo.

It is the question is it safe to use a amazon picture self-hosted?

The picture is not mine, but it isn't amazon's picture either. It is picture of the merchant selling the product. But i guess he wants his product sold.

Also keep in mind my goal is to sell the product from the picture, as amazon affiliate. The merchant who holds copyright of the image probably wants the same.
