Ok... im not sure if this is a silly question or if i have inadvertently stumbled upon a great new method for backlinks

either way id like to share and hear your views.

I have noticed that some people have used my images on their sites.

These images on their sites are showing on yahoo as backlinks to my site.

I wonder if you could post images all over the place and have them as backlinks. Eg. i could post a smiley image or a funny pic in many forums and have a backlink? I think moderators would be far less liberal with the delete/spam button this way.

Also, is this a legit backlink?

    Thoughts?

yes, smiles linked to your site in forums will count as backlinks (it's not a new technique, already discussed here).

They will pass PR juice (as long as links are not nofollowed) but they're like links without anchor text (unless you find a way to edit the alt tag of the picture: with image-links that counts as anchor text).

It's actually a good thing to build some backlinks with NO anchor text because then your linkbuilding looks more natural.

Are you talking about backlinks, or links to images (stealing your bandwidth) on your site?

I don't think someone calling images on your site, count as normal backlinks.

Just add your keywords to the image name: keyword.jpg
Then you will also get the keyword passed...
