What course of action do I take for this?
I had a job on freelancer.
This person funded the job for 200 USD (Sitting in escrow in a milestone)
3 weeks later jobs completed, and the money is released to my account.
About 3 days later I login to see they stole the money from my account.
I already used these funds to pay for another project, so now I'm out 400.

me:Hi Brian, I'm missing a whole bunch of money in my account for some reason
18:45Brian A.:Hi, this is Brian A. Welcome to Freelancer.com Support Desk. How may I help you?
    18:45Brian A.:May I please have your username?
    18:45me: username
18:47Brian A.:payments from milsonana, was reversed.
    18:47me:How and why?
18:48Brian A.:They have violated our Terms and Conditions and is no longer allowed to work on our site.
18:48me:Ok? What's that got to do with money owed to me for a completed project?
18:49me:Job was completed, got money from it, and now u guys take it form me and said they violated something? What's this got to do with me and the money in my account?
18:49Brian A.:Their payments have issues, Josh.
18:50me:This doesn't answer my question at all, what are you talking about?
18:50me:What are these like 8 currency conversion charges on my transactions?
18:51Brian A.:Their violation is related to funds.
18:52me:I had 200 USD in my account from a project weeks / month ago. You randomly have taken the 200 USD out of my account and are giving me some basic response about someone who violated some terms. What does this have to do with me and my money?
18:52Brian A.:Funds are converted to cover different currency transactions.
18:52me:Is this a poor explanation of telling me freelancer stole my funds?
18:52me:You didn't take 200 usd from Milsonana's account, you took it from my account
    18:52me:Still not following.
18:53Brian A.:Regarding this matter, please send us an email at [email protected]
    18:53Brian A.:*.
    18:53me:I'm talking to support...
    18:53me:This is insane
18:54me:I read all over the internet about freelancer stealing money and sluffed it off, now im experiencing this first hand
18:54me:You didn't have permission to steal 200 USD from my account, unbelievable.
18:54me:It is FREELANCER's responsibility to screen funding from milsonana at the time of him funding a project or funding his account
18:55me:3 or 4 weeks later of having it in a milestone, and getting it released to my account is WAY TOO LONG to even think about taking that money from me
18:55Brian A.:payments you have received have issues.
18:55me:Not to mention, I used the money I received already to pay for a 250 dollar project
    18:55me:So now what?
18:55Brian A.:Issues occur after project was posted.
18:55me:The project was on-going for 3 or 4 weeks with the funds sitting in a milestone
18:56me:This wasn't enough time to detect something? HOW are you holding a CUSTOMER accountable for FUNDS that freelancer tells me are approved to begin working on something. We are not accountable for your companies security flaws
18:56me:You have to be kidding me
18:57Brian A.:Would you like us to contact them, provide them your email address, so that you can settle the payment outside our website.
18:57Brian A.:Would you like us to proceed?
    18:57me:Contact who?
18:57me:This is going all over forums with screenshots if you guys don't fix this
    18:58Brian A.:Your employer.
18:58me:Who'se my employer? I employ myself
18:58me:I want you to contact Freelancer and return the money they stole from me
18:59me:You're way too late to claim something absurd like a payment issue
    18:59Brian A.:milsonana.
19:00Brian A.:We apologize but we no longer have the access to their payment.
19:00me:Brian who can I talk to above you
19:00me:I don't think you have a clue what the issue is here
19:01Brian A.:You may send us an email regarding this matter.
19:01Brian A.:Our email address is [email protected].
19:02me:I had for near a month that 200 USD sitting in the project notifying me that the milestone is funded and the funds are ready to use. I completed my work, and the money was released to my account. I used that money to pay for a project (250 dollars) and that project has started. Now you've taken that money from me, and your explanation is:
    19:02me:Brian A.:
    Their payments have issues, Josh.
19:03me:What kind of system is this, I've never seen anything like this
19:04Brian A.:Yes, we do not have the details to their violation. For more details, you may send us an email at [email protected].
19:04me:It's 2015, if you can't properly employ proper security to screen for proper payments, than what are you guys doing as a company? HOW DOES THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CUSTOMER? I'M NOT INCHARGE OF YOUR SECURITY CHECKS RELATED TO FUNDING. I DONT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR FREELANCERS MISTAKES OR THERE LACK OF SECURITY CHECKS.
19:04me:All I know is that money is mine, and you stole it from my account without ANY authorization.
19:04me:I don't CARE about their violation.
19:05me:it has NOTHING to do with me, and the funds in my account
19:05me:If he commits murder, am I responsible for that too?
19:05me:Why am I accountable for ANYTHING to do wtih this stranger ive never met
19:05me:I don't agree to "cover" his credit card fraud or whatever it was, and I don't care what it was, It's freelancers problem, NOT MINE
19:06me:Seriously, I'm not interested in emailing you guys for some generic response, I want my money back
19:07Brian A.:We apologize but we do not have the access to their payment.
    19:07me:wtf is this
19:08me:you think i care about your apology
    19:08me:you scammers
19:08Brian A.:Issues happened after the project was posted.
19:08me:How can anyone provide work here?
    19:08me:Say for a serious job
    19:08me:like 10 thousand dollars
19:08me:someone does the job and you just take the money and apologize
19:08me:wtf are you even thinking that this is ok in any circumstance
19:09me:200 usd is still a lot of money to me
19:09Brian A.:Do you have any other queries or concern?
19:09me:Yeah, how do you sleep at night?
19:09me:Seriously, how do I provide work if I dont know if im goign to get paid or not
19:09me:what sort of protecting do I have

Bump for suggestions how to get freelancer to pay me my money.
It's just fkn 200 usd, but still its the principle. I am not down with a company just getting away with stealing.

No wonder those guys bought Warrior Forum.

They're probably buying some WSOs with your money and trying to figure out how to make money with that forum they've bought.

All in all, that's fucking unbeliavable and unaccetable behaviour from them... Not sure how you can get your money out, but maybe send queries to lawyers operating in the same jurisdiction as they are and ask if that has grounds for a case. If nothing else, they could at least send Freelancer's assholes a threatening letter to try and scare them.

OP I think they got rich stealing money from people. I was a member on that site some 4-5 years ago and I remember they started billing my new account and saying how I owe them money (it was $20-ish or something like that) even though I didnt have any kind f premium account, never worked there and never hired anyone. They repetedly asked for my CC data to bill me and I made sure not to provide them that cause I knew they are trying to scam me.

I heard your story hundreds of times, it is happening over and over again.

Freelancer.com is a joke. The most flawed system you'll ever find. Totally moronic support. I was working on there for a last couple of years and made about $20K in sales. Once they closed my account for no reason at all. I contacted support and I was getting same response (every time from different staff member) over and over again which made 0 sense. Literally one of them say "provide me with scanned id", and then, 6 days later another one contact me and say "can you please send us your scanned id". You wouldn't believe it. Like I was talking to cleverbot. (Brian is best support ever compared to them back then)

In the end, after about 3 weeks they unblocked my account and I withdraw my money, but I must be really crazy to work on that site again.

As for yourself, you can say bye to your $200. Next time work on Elance/UpWork.

    Their support e-mail:

Thanks for getting in touch. Just letting you know we have received your inquiry and our Support Team will get back to you in a few days.

Nice, just a few days for each response from the many responses I anticipate needing.
    What a fkn joke.

It's especially frustrating right now, my fiancee and I have just purchased our first home, and literally put everything we have in to getting it. I'm literally saving for first months payment, and don't have enough yet. I can't take any hits like this right now.

If you google "freelancer stole my money" I'm not the first to experience it, luckily mine wasn't as costly as others. But wow, how can such a large company operate this way?
Even IF they are in the right, I have over 50 jobs on their site, 5 star perfect rating, have paid thousands in project fees / monthly membership costs. How at this point do they not cover this damage as a thanks for everything I've done for their company. It's incredible.
