So I wanted to brand myself, basically for my name fill the front page of Google with news, articles and press releases about me. The name isn't super common, but I have the typical competitors such as Linkedin, Facebook and a few other profiles on company websites. How hard is this to accomplish? Was planning on doing press releases with back link building and some articles on bigger authority websites.

Putting your name up in the SERPs is no different than ranking a website. But I must say adding in a Google Authorship plugin will definitely make your life 10x easier.

Or you can go an easier route of ranking your LinkedIn page or Google+ page.

If you choose to rank your website, then there are plugins like Yoast SEO that helps you add a rel=author link to your website and put your "face" in the Google search results.

    Trevor,

What do you mean by ranking your name? Do you mean ranking a web page about yourself? It will have to be some domain name that beats out those other social profiles (which frankly are going to continue to show up pretty high for a while).

This can be done but it will take a concerted effort. Have you tried buying your name as domain name? I would start there and then write things about yourself like you talked about. Continue to do that on a consistent basis and eventually those pieces will dominate the SERPs. You still have to think about which web property that your name is present on is the one you want to rank higher.

For example if all you did was press released about yourself then it would be the press release service or whatever site is getting those press releases that would be ranking higher than the social profiles.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

I do want to rank some website properties, but I also want to rank press release also. Think "Building lots of reputation", etc like high profile press releases about me etc.

It's likely Twitter, Linked In(s), Google Places and FB that are with in the top 6... Just to take a wild guess. Quality press releases from reputable\authoritative sites would probably help. I think you'd need quality and quantity from various other means to outrank though.

I'm interested as I'm doing part time work for my brother to promote his experience, abilities, intrigue and diligence. Anything I can learn to help him out, even through trial and error on my own before implementing.

    Good luck man!
