Here his wife is injured and the condition is fatal.
She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road.

Here he brought her food and attended to her with love and compassion.

He brought her food again but was shocked to find her dead.
He tried to move her....a rarely-seen effort for swallows!

Aware that his sweetheart is dead and will never come back to him again, he cries with adoring love.

He stood beside her, saddened of her death
    [IMG]

Finally aware that she would never return to him,
he stood beside her body with sadness and sorrow
    [IMG]

Millions of people cried after watching this picture in
America and Europe and even in India. It is said that the
photographer sold these pictures for a nominal fee to the
most famous newspaper in France. All copies of that
newspaper were sold out on the day these pictures were published.
And many people think animals don't have a brain or feelings?????

P.S: I GOT THIS EMAIL TODAY FROM YAHOO GROUPS

I've seen something like this before, bout 10 years ago when i was still a teenager there was a couple of little birds like about the same size of these birds chillin on a wire, i had a little be-be gun, and decided to try to shoot one of them, i hit one of them and he flipped upside down, with his claws still holding on to the wire, and his little buddy next to him started freaking out flying above him, chirping all crazy, while the other birds took off. I never forgot that, and it's kinda weird that you posted this cuz, i was remembering this the other day..

How do we know he wasn't just wondering why his dinner was not ready, only to see her lying there so now he's trying to wake her up?

I need to see a female one do that before I say animals feel!

No no guys you have it all wrong...

See they are a middle-aged married couple and every couple of months when hubby gets excited because its time to get some nookie, the missus pretends to be asleep, got a headache, or be too ill !!!

The poor guys just trying to wake her up...
Until he came to the realization that she would rather jump in front of a moving car than have sex lol

Well, first of all, who thinks animals don't have a brain? At the very least even the most primitive animals have some sort of nervous system, whether you call it a brain or not is the issue of some debate, but that's what they have. It should be very clear to just about anyone that at least birds have brains.
The whole story and the images certainly are very touching but I kinda doubt that's how that bird really felt. It's just another attempt at manipulating your feelings. Do you have any idea how many much more fucked up things happen just about every second? Yeah, it's easier to unload all your empathy into some pictures from the internets than wonder about true suffering.
if you need any more, this reminded me of the saddest thing I ever came across on the internet: http://unworthycause.com/images/animalcrossing.jpg

Poor thing, he'll have to make his own dinner tonight. Never mind though, I'm sure he'll find a new chick.

I think it has to do with at least partly with religious beliefs. -Animals being servants of man etc.

I think it's incredibly stupid that some don't believe animals have emotions or brains. Have you ever owned a dog? Anyone who has knows that they do in fact have emotions that vary depending on your own as well (inter-"personal" feelings)

I remember reading a story a few years ago about a dog whose owner died. The dog attended the mans funeral and wasn't willing to go home. He slept and spent 24/7 at the tombstone. The mans relatives brought him food but he wouldn't eat. He eventually died of starvation at the man tombstone. The dog had no "issues" whatsoever before.

It's quite conceited to think animals don't feel....come on. Anybody who thinks that has less of a brain than the animal itself.

    PS; Human ARE animals.

Right...So you're saying a cartoon is sadder than some real world pictures... But then you lament how it's stupid to be sad over pictures.

I'm not sure if there is anything more fucked up than what is in the OP -That is DEATH. What can be more fucked up than that? The death of a person is only equal to that of anything else by any objective means of deliberation.

How to say, animals just like people, in their own world, have their own emotions:anger, grief, joy and happiness!

No, I wasn't saying it's sadder (though it probably is because it involves actual human beings who can express a bit more complex emotions). I was just contributing some additional sadness to the thread. It is stupid, but it would probably be equally as pointless if I was trying to get you to do something about the killing of the innocents that happens on a daily basis. I'm usually not very consistent and I probably don't make sense most of the time, but I apologize for that.

As far as the rest of you comment is concerned, maybe you should stop trolling or at least read the whole thing.

Actually, some animals have a sense of "self", they recognize that the image in the mirror is just an reflection. Even some birds can do that. They know it. But you're probably right that they can't yet feel it. But maybe all it takes is knowing it, because it has a meaning to someone else.
