From May 26 onward my business suffered a setback and I am still trying to recover. From $1500 a week to $100 a week. It is frustrating. I am trying to learn, adopt and recover. But still no success. Google still showing worthless one-page cr@p web 2.0 sites that were built specifically for blackhat link building ahead of my sites.

    How are you guys doing?

Penguin is targeting off page seo, particularly your anchor text. You need to diversify your anchor text. You are probably only targeting a handful of keywords. You need to mix it up, do some different variation keywords, partial match, generic and raw urls.

Try to avoid going strictly after do follow backlinks. To make it natural, you should get just as many nofollow or more. Google is going to target an unnatural ratio of do follow backlinks one of these updates.

If you have thousands of links, this may take time to balance everything out, so be patient.

Yes web 2.0 link building. This time I am going slow. My sites are now ranked between 70 to 100. Before May 26 they were 1 or 2.

As you dilute your anchor text, you will start to recover.

Here we go again another lame thread on a very boring and tedious subject!

Easy fix edit and/or add new content to your websites and move on

Wingeing in a BHW thread is not going to fix the problem!

Now diversify the linkbuilding with different anchors and raw url's also build links for inner pages of your site for the anchors you're targeting. I'm sure your site will get back to the first page.

Adding and fixing content is not helping..Link diversity and anchor text dilution is the only option and that too will take some time considering the fact the no. of. links my site has..

That is what I am doing now. But nothing seems to work..

Well, you sound pretty much defeated, I understand this can be hard but... giving up that easily?
If you've completely given up on this site and think it's not gonna recover then just build a new one and rank it according to the new standards.

I have not admitted defeat yet. I have already started building new sites. It's just that some of my high performing sites have been penalized and it is all my fault because I was lazy. I used the service of a couple of bad fiverr gigs just before the update that did more harm than good.

do some link diversification or 301 to new site and create backlinks for it, that way you can quickly recover the sites.

If you can create 100s of sites and rank them easily then why do you need a JV partner? -_-

Best thing you can do for yourself is start building new sites! You obviously know how to rank sites, just be a little more cautions with your link building and content. Hopefully your old sites will recover from penalty, but I've learned the hard way, that sometimes its just best to let go and start again. All that time you're wasting on trying to recover sites hit by penalty can be used on new sites. Hopefully it's just a time based penalty, but if not, just move on. Try selling the sites :)

I've gone much more whitehat (or what I know is far less likely at least to get penalized), and am building lots of different websites - it's incredibly slow, but I want to be able to sleep at night knowing I won't wake up screwed!

Yeah! That's right. Recovering a penalized site is time consuming. Better to build new sites...which of course takes time to rank.. That thing that worries me is that the current no. 1 site for a keyword I used to rank is using images that I had created for my site and getting homepage links from PR 5 Russian sites..

Depends on your niche and the information you invested into your site. Was it just some authority site that made money through ads and affiliate sales? If so, it isn't worth recovering and you can start a new one. If it was a big authority site that had it's own product, then ppc, ppv, cpm, all those nice juicy advertisements and press releases are the way to go to "make up" the traffic loss. Anyway, it really does depend, and it might sometimes be easier and just move on and make something new. Give your loyal viewers acess to the new site transfer by email, and the hope for the best.

P.S. I really hate sites like that, that depend solely on rankings. It means that the content really wasn't worth a damn dime if you couldn't buy ads to advertise it....
