ALL my money making sites have been completely knocked out of the water I've gone from making 5 figures a month to nothing, this is unacceptable.
First of all I'm going to try to recover the biggest earning site and I will let you know my progress.

    What happened;

    • Noticed main sites ranking had dropped, ordered about $1000 worth of SEO.
    • Came to BHW realized it was an "Overoptimization" penality *facepalm*.
    • Just removed all On-Page-SEO such as bolding and italics of the keyword.
    • Ordered some more white hat SEO.
    • Now considering selling sites and moving info Offline Marketing.

Has anyone else got any methods or ideas to improve ranking/fix the damage done?

dont discard your sites just yet... they are coming back trust me :) i gave middle finger to google and bought huge profile campaing, my site came to first page righ away and staid there.... over optimization and spam links in my ass haha.

Just do what you do and you will be up, if you have many sites then it sucks to bring them all up one by one. Time is your friend :) Try to learn about social marketing?

Do not even think about selling your sites; you will get out of this. The truth is this particular penguin update is worse than panda update. I got affected by panda a few months ago. I thought my authority site was doomed. But in just 3 months, i made almost 80 percent recovery. Similarly, this update too can be tackled. You just need to be patient.

I can say that ordered services won't help recover. Actually they will worsen. Wait and see.

I agree with other posters, its still to early to come to the decision of selling your websites.
Just let the dust settle and things would surely get better.

This Penguin update has mostly hit sites with high value keywords. So, you are not the only one who has lost all the traffic and income overnight. At this time, we need to be patient, and try to analyze why we received the penalty - and then take actions to counter the penalty.

It'd be foolish to sell your site at this point. You will get peanuts. Many fools are selling their sites on Flippa at ridiculously low prices. Don't make that mistake.

Check these useful tips from SEOMoz for surviving the Penguin update.

I'm on the same boat! My site was badly hit for being a BMR member. I was thinking about 301'ing or even selling my website but I don't think I could do this. The website has over 500 sites with unique content so it's not like "whatever"...

I've decided to get my contextual links back by submitting articles to web 2.0s and writing unique (!) content on several blogs with BLs pointing to my site. I've also removed a few blogroll links. So far, 10 of my 60 KWs have entered the #100 back (are not very high though).

Has anyone else been hit by Penguin for being a member of a blog network? I'd love to hear how you're guys coping with it and whether there is any help for the BMR people :)

    Thanks!

I had several sites hit for using BMR and various BHW Private Blog Network services. They took quite a beating. What has really helped me recover is adding lots of unique content to my site based around those keywords which lost rank.

One site has returned from rank 300 last night, to about 9th in Google. This is of a direct result of me removing all on page SEO. lol.

So, I checked and most of my sites are ok accept the one making the most money from adsense. It has gone from PR4 > PR1 .. It has also dropped out of top 10 for multiple first page keywords. I am curious if anyone else has noticed this trend. I talked to a couple others and they also said their more profitable sites took the biggest hits. Anyone else notice this?

How long did it take for Google to recognize/recalculate your ranks after modifying your onpage SEO? In my tests, so far, changing onpage SEO has not resulted in any positive gains. That's with an original 11% keyword density too.

That certainly seems strange. Maybe they've made it so that too much text manipulation sets of a trigger for over-optimization or something.

If I have unnatural links in our sites how can we remove. I haven't access where I found unnatural links.

Not a joke at all. As I've noted in other threads, keyword density is relative to the quality of the article. Technical articles are far more flexible when it comes to density, while spun gibberish is not. The site ranked #2 for its primary KW before Penguin. I've lowered KW density by half and no movement in the SERPS whatsoever as of today.

Nonsense, google can not determine gibberish.
All my content (talking a ton of domains here) is auto generated.
