I have a site on the first page of google that dropped from #3 to #9 recently, and I'm thinking its keyword density. i use Easy SEO WP plugin, but I think it can be a little misleading.

I have a couple of questions. Are "pill" and "pills" regarded as the same keyword in google's eyes. When I type in pills it will bold pill as well and vice versa.

What would be a good free site to check keyword density. I'm confused on how to check for something thats a 3 word phrase. if its 3 words and shows up 1 time out of 100 words is a 1% density or 3%? If someone could clarify that, that would be great.

GG has an smarty way with keyword. They can recordnize pill and pills are similar, not the same. If no result of pills, the pill will be use.

Your problem maybe cause of many competitors use same SEO WP + other method.

And other reason is GG always change their algorithm, as I know is a week as well

How long was the site at number 3 for? if it had only been there a couple days/weeks its probably just a dance, if it had been there for long, its something else

Could just be that some of your competitors did some power SEO, although this is unlikely since you didn't just drop one or two places but 6

In terms of keyword density, I always just make sure my overall density is under 10%, usually even 5% to be safe. Also, make sure the keywords are in real sentences, not just a list of keywords stuck together.

Big g is pretty clever when it comes to keyword density, making sure your content looks natural is important. If I was you, I would just add some fresh content to the site, hopefully that will repair your ranking

You can also check keyword density in SEO Quake and/or Traffic Travis if you have it.

I doubt you got hit because of keyword density... I find you can go up pretty high without having much of a problem in that area.

I had several sites get dropped from the #1 spot to like #6-#8 for their main keyword. These sites had been ranking at that position for over 6 months and domains are like 3 years old. One site I added a bunch of new content several months back and the other nothing added for over a year. The one thing common between them is I had not done any sort of backlinking for like 4 months now.

So is my drop due to lack of new backlinks or lack of new content? I doubt my competitors did any massive SEO campaign recently to move up and also the top 10 are pretty much the same merchant sites as before.

    What do you guys think?
