    Hey Guys,
Long story short here, had a domain, built backlinks (main domain and sub pages), it got penalised (manual penalisation?) by G (GWT has noticed unnatural blah blah). Cleaned up all the crap links, after about 4 submissions to G, it got unpenalised and no longer listed under GWT. Having said that, I think there are still some algorithmic penalties going on for my site.
In specific, some URLs seem to be ranking lower than they should.

Having said all that. I am now building a new site with a new site structure (same domain).

Question: Should I forward the old urls to the new urls, or should I just show a generic 404 page with a link to the main domain (and/or redirect them to the main domain).
Reason I ask is if there any 'bad mojo' on the old urls, I dont want that to get forwarded to the new urls.

PS: This is a legitimate company site in operation for over a decade, not some fly-by-night site.

    Your thoughts?

This happened to me. But my rankings came back to the first page so I totally stopped building links and it is still sitting there a year later. Also another site got penalized and came back to first page. I never built any links after and it is still sitting there a year later too.

If you are not where you want to be I guess you have to build links but I would be extremely cautious. And only high quality links.

Thanks, but not really what I was asking though. I'm not asking about link building, I'm asking about link redirects in my new site. Structure is going to change and I want to know if I should forward the old pages to the new pages or if I should leave it.
I would normally say yes, but I suspect that the old pages might still have some kind of algo penalty even though the manual penalty has been removed. Though I suspect that it could just be Penguin and should all be fine with the new site/content/copy & code.

in your situation, i would gonna buy new domain, make a new website, build some good links, and after that if there is some good links pointing to you old domian, i would do redirect to new one.
