About 3 months ago I built a new site on a 10 year old domain name. I did various link building, social signals etc and was ranking on page 5 for my target keyword. The site was PR3.

I then ordered a gig on Fiverr where the vendor adds 100 Google +1s to the page of your choice. The order was delivered and all seemed fine. After about 48 hours though literally all of the +1s were removed. I can only assume that Google detected that the profiles used were fake/bots. It also probably wasn't smart that the person doing this blasted them all on in about 10 minutes instead of drip feeding them over a couple of weeks.

Anyway, no big deal wasting $5 of course. Who cares? But then I noticed that the web page in question also fell from page 5 of Google (where it had been for weeks) to page 14! Now that I am bothered about!

Has anyone else experienced this? I suppose it could be a coincidence but I doubt it. The drop in SERPS corresponded exactly with the +1s disappearing from my site.

This also has negative SEO implications as well of course. Apparently if someone blasts your site with +1s from fake Google+ profiles at high velocity, Google will punish you. If I dropped from page 5 to page 14 on an aged domain because of only 100 +1s, just think what would happen if someone hit it with thousands. It seems it could be far worse than someone hitting you with spammy backlinks.

This is why I don't use Fiverr. I don't see the $5 as a small amount of money, I see it as part of a larger investment.

plus 1's from fiverr are usually faked, from a single ip and just screams unnatural

Google +1's are way too risky. I would stay clear of them.

Classic example of "you get what you pay for". I would not have trusted a five dollar gig for something like that.

Thanks for warning everyone that hasn't considered the repercussions of something like that.

    Well maybe.

I bought a fiverr gig that put 180 on one URL in 24 hours. Nothing happened (it was six months ago) didn't go up - didn't go down. Still number 7 page 1 six months later.

I'm pretty sure you might be able to neg SEO someone temporarily with +1's but I've tried and not seen evidence of it working myself. Probably other conditions/factors involved.

Good catch :) More food for thought. Thanks given.

Yup this has been common knowledge for some time now another one that myself and a lot others feel is causing negative effects is pinterest links so be careful of them to.

It all comes down to how natural it actually looks its common sense really if your going to blast your site with even 100 google +1s which would seem small really and not serious spamming but in my opinion thats a red flag especially if this is some small mns and is not something thats going to go viral and attract that sort of sudden rise naturally, gradually add these types of links. Also fiverr is a sess pool which should be avoided if you value your site, it doesn't take a genius to work out the sellers lists would be spammed to death and they would be using bots + fake accs for social signals like this which would have been most likely already used countless times on other fiverr buyers, so that was a rookie move.

With recent updates and how things are going people need to be in the mindset when building links of thinking does this look natural, would this happen naturally etc etc that is of course if your looking to last :) Don't get me wrong I know there is still plenty of ways to game google but they are dieing out and they aren't lasting as long as they used to....

Yes, you are correct. When doing any type of social media blasting make sure you are spreading it out over a time period. Google will notice the spike in activity and analyze it and determine if they are "FAKE" or "BOT-LIKE" behavior.

Be careful when you do this just make sure you make it look as "NATURAL" as possible.

Example: post a blog article on your niche and then have them bookmark the article over a time of 1-2 weeks with +1s, FB likes, twitter , etc.

    Good luck!

It's funny how you read all these articles about how SEO is getting more expensive for quality work yet people are still dumb enough to buy Fiverr crap for first tier.

Avoiding the use of any Google product is the best plan in my opinion. Regardless of ones opinion on Google in general, using one of their services/products in the course of performing BH link building simply is asking for trouble.

I also utilize click ring such as addmefast to get google plus for my sites. Sometimes i got up to 400+ but then they were quickly removed and i only have about 200+ now. But my website ranking was not affected. I think it is just coincidence.

Fiverr + Google's own platform = Never even consider that... It's like putting pure shit in front of Google directly, and saying hey if I'm buying a ton of fake +1's, what else do you think I'm doing... I still don't buy +1's unless I can verify the seller knows what their doing, and that for me is extremely limited.. Would never trust Fiverr for that..

    Lesson learned, I guess?
I have built ~550 real +1s to one of my sites over the past year and it is very hard to determine if it was beneficial for my SEO efforts.. I have not bothered with +1s on my other projects and they are all doing fine.

Think about it: your google account is an email account that is usually signed into daily, used to surf the web, used for analytics, adsense, adwords, etc, etc, etc.

now think about these fake account profiles, they're created, signed into once, and then only ever used to +1 a page very unnaturally when the profiles digital footprint is probably completely unnatural in the first place.

it won't matter if you drip feeding from fake profiles. G is paying a lot of attention the usage of these profiles that are then just used for reviews or plus 1s. People need to stop thinking of google as a dumb computer algorithm and start realizing they're on these forums, employing counters to every little scam you come up with.

I think it has a lot more ranking value when the plus 1s come from others in the same industry that also share and pls 1 similar content.

The only solution then becomes to create a network, and share, plus 1 their content and hope they return the favor.

Just play by the rules on g pl+ ....they're not being like facebook or twitter and ignoring fake accounts. Which is sad, but at the same time good for what they're going for.

g pls is the new seo unfortunately.

try using hauthor tags, and also linking to articles using gpls links, supposedly these carry more weight if you haven't looked into them yet:

    edit: use sparingly of course

I think playing with any of google products is not too smart- there are other ways for link builiding. g+ only make sense if they're done with real and established accounts and from diffrent ips. also in webmaster tools you have history of your g+ so if you had 1 per week and suddenly received 100 in one day it's not too natural isnt it?
