Hi

I hope that someone can help me.

since yesterday I can't start my desktop. This is the error I get

"Window 2000 could not start because \Winnt\System32\Config\System.ced is missing or corrupt"

I tried finding a solution on Microsoft site but it says it need installation cd which I don't have.

Can someone help?

Thanks

hi neo

Thanks but how do I make startup cd from other computer?

better yet if you have the win2000 cd just put it in and reinstall. it will fix the problem.

Get a friend to make a set of floppy disks, that is, if you have both got floppy drives.

To create a Windows 2000 Professional bootable diskette you will need four 1.44MB diskettes and the Windows 2000 Professional CD.

Click Start / Run / browse to the CD-ROM drive.
Open the "BOOTDISK" folder and double-click makeboot.exe and click ok to launch the program to create the diskette.

Users can also easily create an Emergency Repair Disk by clicking Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and opening Backup. From the Backup window, click the button for Emergency Repair Disk and follow each of the steps.

Well since you don't have the windows CD, you might want try with a Start-up disc(floppy) created in DOS.

Step 1.
Start the computer in DOS. To bypass Windows, press and hold the F8 key after the computer displays the system settings. The C:\ prompt should appear.
Step2
Label a blank, formatted floppy disk and insert it into the floppy drive.
Step3
At the DOS prompt, type: FORMAT A: /S. The /S option prompts the computer to copy system files to the floppy disk. The computer will format the disk and copy system files to the disk.
Step4
Type "No" to end the format command. The startup disk is ready for use.

Now put that floppy in your system and restart your PC.
