Hi,

So I have been checking a few domains from PBN brokers that have decent metrics.
I always check on web.archive the history and quite a few (maybe 30%) of these domains have previously been 301'd to a different domain in recent months/years.

My question is, should I exclude these from my considerations? If not then please give reasons why as I thought a 301 was a permanent redirect, passing all the link power to that new domain.

Thanks!

301 is permanent until it is removed, in which case it does not exist anymore.
One advantage of such domains is they were not reused by another PBN and spammed (assuming this is the case); if the domain is clean, then yes I buy it.

In theory they are removed once 301 is removed, it might take you a few months to get the links crawled and juice flowing to the original domain.

Apart from that they would be ok in theory, but from personal experience - I try to avoid them for other reasons.

Thanks as well, could you elaborate on why you avoid these domains

301s are perfectly fine. Matter of fact, 90%+ of expired domains were redirected at some point in the past. To parking pages mostly. Once 301 is gone, it's gone. I even consider domains that were 301 redirected to be actually safer, because by not being in Serp, there is a smaller chance of them ever being attacked.

I second @Nargil on this - 301 is perfectly fine, but with the condition that the redirect is legit. So for example "mybusiness.co.uk" is redirected to "mybusiness.com" <- perfectly normal and legit redirect, it seems that their business go international. Ill get such domain anytime. Or if is redirected to parking page. However if is "mybusiness.co.uk" redirected to "BestViagraPillsEver.com" - hell no...

Many thanks, your answers make sense.
