    Hello

something crazy happened today. I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone.

I was trying to pay someone $2000 using my paypal balance. I was at this coffee shop with not so reliable internet connection.

    so here is what happened:
I entered the person's email address as usual, payment is for Goods, Next, Send Money.
so I pressed the yellow Send Money button I waited and waited and waited, it stayed on that same page. It would not show the confirmation "payment sent" page.

then, finally, after about 20 seconds, I got an error: you do not have enough funds in your paypal balance. Please choose an alternate payment method.

I am like "WTF? I have more than enough" so I checked my paypal balance, and the money was already GONE. but nothing about this transaction in my history, and the receiver said money had not been transferred to his paypal.

At this point I dont know what to do, the money is gone and here is no record of it. What should I do?

Lesson learned: never use an unreliable internet connection to send money, you will get screwed. and I am 100% sure the problem is the internet connection. The internet at this place keeps disconnecting once every minute, it's terrible. I should have known better.

update: To all the people who are saying I am hallucinating and this never happened, check here:

    Enough said.

PS: If your story has an ounce of truth, then contact PayPal Support. $2000 doesn't vanish in air.

Usually every single transaction can be seen in the history? There might have been someone phishing for your account details and moving the funds before you, but still, I've never heard of the possibility to wipe out the transaction history. Contact Paypal, although they're slow...

paypal will be able to verify that it was there and if they can't see where it went then they will be able to put it back. Give them a call. As per the previous, it can't just vanish....

If anyone had hacked your account, I doubt they would have transfered the money within 20 seconds.. also you would have received an email saying "you have sent $xyz amount to blabla@jasfioh.com". The risk would have been for someone to intercept packets of encrypted data which would have made it easier to guess your password later.

my opinion... :bsflag: i apologise in advance if I am wrong, but you often start attention seeking threads.. i'm not even going to go and fish them out, but I guess other people have noticed (at least your rep seems to show that)

No offence but Paypal is not build on crappy software. First of all IF it really happened, you could get your money back by just contacting them. Second of all, it would never happen.

Ps. "I sent 2000 USD" "I have more than enough" "Money already gone", if you have more than enough why couldnt u transfer the "second" time. And do you really think Paypals software is so weak that every time youre on a bad internet connection, money would just dissappear? Lol.. I call the BS also haha.

I don't know about PayPal, etc... but what I DO know is that when I go on vacation to this one particular town, the TBI Yogurt place (with the "free wireless internet") somehow manages to extract my email address from my wireless signals. They then send phishing emails to me, telling things like my purchase at RalphLauren.com is ready and that I need to login to confirm my order, which then wants me to verify my VISA card number, etc...

This first time it happened I thought it was coincidence, but it has happened 3 times over 2 years in exactly the same way.
