Hello everyone, My name is Daryl.
I'm new here, so please forgive any mistakes that I make.
I was recently involved in a scam, where I become what I've read a 'money mule'.
I foolishly put up items for a man on ebay and sent the buyer's money to him after putting it in my bank from PayPal.
The buyer took the money back out of my paypal account, which is excellent, but I do not have that money in my bank, and now my paypal is in a negative balance.
I'm currently in talks with my bank to try and get this money back, but from what I've seen on boards, money is impossible to get back from when this happened, also the details that I have gathered about the scammer has been sent on to the police, but I don't think they are doing anything about it.
Even with the Money that I got back from paypal fees, the account is still negative £2,010($2840)
I'm worried about what will happen to me. What can I do about this situation? I've tried talking to paypal, but they just keep linking me to the 'resolution centre' where I can't find anything I need. I'm losing sleep over this.
If I change the details on my paypal account(a few times) and delete the bank account that is attached to it, will they still be able to find me?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated,
    Daryl

I doubt they'll just give up trying to get back £2,010($2,840)...
If I change the details on my paypal account to a few different locations and delete the bank account that is attached to it, will they still be able to find me?
    Thanks for your reply,
    Daryl

Eventually they'll remove it. Same thing happened to me, I was negative -$1200. They adjusted it down. Just forget your PayPal account for a while. And no, once your account is negative PayPal might try to deduct funds from your bank/card and you cannot delete them. That account is no longer good, and if you make any accounts under the same name they'll block you. It's recommended to get that account sorted out though.

So even if I close the bank account that is linked to my paypal, and change the addresses a few times, they will still be able to track me?
    Thanks for your reply,
    Daryl

You can't fool paypal. Get the money out of your bank account if you have
and forget about both paypal and that bank account.

Just get a new paypal account.

So if I close the bank account linked to it and leave it, then ignore the debt collection letters, how long will it take for this to blow over?
Can the debt collection people not take me to court or send somebody to my home?
    Thank you for your replies,
    Daryl

Send them an e-mail to resolve this. If you have the money, be a man, pay your own shit.

Thanks so much for all of the replies.
If I just leave the account, will they be able to do anything to my Mother's account as she is registered to the same address as me?

The only place they can take the money off is the bank account or card linked to your Paypal account, they can't take the money from your mothers Paypal account. Paypal will probably send you a letter or two. If you don't replay they will give the debt to debt collectors. First the debt collectors will send you a letter or two or they may try to contact you via phone. If they have no luck they may come to your door. By the law they can't come into your house if you don't let him.

I would close the bank account and cancel any cards linked to this Paypal. Also change the address, email address and phone number on Paypal account if you can. Ignore all the letters you get and if they come to your door tell them that this person doesn't leave here anymore. This should be end of the story. Debt collectors are a business and they will take you court only if they are 100% sure that they will get the money. If they can't find the person responsible for the debt they wont spend any more money. I'm not saying that this is the right thing to do but it's a solution if you don't have any money at all.

Another solution is to agree with the Paypal or debt collector to pay back in installments. They wont agree with this straight away but when they see that you really don't have anything they will agree at some point.

    Hello everyone,
Thanks so much for spending the time to reply.
I have closed the bank account that is linked to the paypal account, and am soon going to change the address and email of it.
Something is concerning me, though. I've been reading online and it people are saying that paypal can link two accounts between their IP. As my Mother and I use the same IP, will they limit her account or try to push the negative over to her?
    Thanks,
    Daryl.
