If I was scammed via Paypal with multiple payments and sent the money as a "gift" each time. I know my only option is to call it an Unauthorized payment. Does Paypal check the IP address when investigating? Could I get my account closed if they see that the IP matches mine? Any advice on this would be great.

In my knowledge paypal guys are really fools they dont even know how to check the ip.
They just want to provide buyers protection and return the money.

Anyone had any experience with a situation like this? I know that you can't open an Item Dispute on a Gift payment, and filing an Unauthroized Transaction is the only way to go, but I'm wondering if this could backfire on me at all.

If you sell digital products and the seller starts a dispute, you'll certainly lose.
    In my experience...

I'm not well up on paypal dispute policy but I can only assume that in a dispute they would lean towards the customer.

Gotta say that I'm with shavandude about the ip tracking. Have you ever tried to implement their api on anything that wasn't extremely basic? Its not well developed and the documentation is incomplete. The sandbox is full of bugs too.

So, while this I pure speculation, I'd be surprised if they were doing any complicated analytics on ips, etc.

If its intangible goods you will lose no matter what

as for saying it was unauthorized payment, whats your paypal account worth to you??
Does the possiblility of never being able to use paypal again outweigh the amount you were scammed for??

I wouldn't risk my paypal account for any transaction no matter how much, if it's over 20k I'd get a lawyer and handle it legally
