Ok, I am trying to sell a Nokia mobile, put advert in gumtree. My asking was £275.

Now I have emails coming in like the followings,

" Please send me the money request invoice of £320 from paypal, to cover the shipping cost (with Royal Mail International, and paypal transaction charges). I'll make the payment immediately it comes up on my paypal account (his/her email account) Keep me posted "

Another one,
" hello there,
thanks for the fast response,i am actually buying the item for someone abroad as a present and i will add you 70GBP to the sale price of the item for the cost of the shipment abroad through Royal Mail International Delivery Signed For,so kindly send me a request from paypal for the total cost of the item and including postage so that i could be able to complete the payment and also do get the item off the site...i look forward to your fast response.....thanks"

and few others as well, some of them offered me even £450.!! Am i missing something. Is there a way people can cheat me over paypal. I am bit confused, what to do now.

Yes this is fraud. Ship only to verified paypal address or at least require phone verification on the phone listed in the paypal account. This could decrease the number of potential customers but at least you won't lose money.

It should say "verified" in the senders details. However this is not 100% effective, as it could be a hacked account.

In general if someone wants to pay more money than you are asking, wants overnight shipping regardless of cost, and most important of all if they need you to ship the phone to their cousin/friend/grandmother/whatever who is in Nigeria then IT'S A SCAM!
