Has anyone done this? I've found several expired domains (from several years back) that have a few articles I wouldn't mind re-posting on my website. The article isn't indexed in Google and the site expired years ago. Will Google know I 'stole' the content?

Yes it's called expired content. Run it through copy scape first

Have received a few DMCA's while using content of expired domains. The reason was that the company moved on to a new domain with similar (not exactly same) content.
    So be cautious.

I used to do this some years ago. But I stopped when I found out some clones will manage to find the same expired domain and copied the content without checking if it is indexed.
It can still be use for link building. But NO NO for my money sites.

archive.org isn't indexed by google, so if the content isn't anywhere else its safe to reuse.

I had a DMCA from this a while ago. You'll just have to rolll the dice really.

For companies in the US, you can check to see if they are no longer operating by going to the secretary of state's website. Picking one that is also out of business completely will probably reduce risk.

This content is from personal blogs. I'm not using any personal pictures or anything, just blog posts.... essentially by soccer moms.

Then nothing to worry about, they just like to make threats sometimes but aren't going to actually pursue it.

You might use it for SEO as its best to have articles written from scratch for money sites.

It's okay to reuse the old content of the deindexed domain but make sure to check the content first in copyscape.
