I just bought a script where the owner does not want to give me the full source code and I do not want to give him the full access to my entire website, so is there a way to restrict the cpanel permission to only a directory so that he can install the script for me without giving him the full access?

Thanks.

To make this clear, the script is an independent tool that runs on its own database, all what I understood from the script owner that he wants to protect his source code from been nulled!! that is why he wants to install it by himself! otherwise I did ask him to let me install it by myself but he won't do that.
I was thinking if there is a way to assign users to ftp /directories through cpanel? but what about the database?

If you set up a FTP user you can limit them to certain directories - but I don't understand why he thinks him uploading it will protect the code, once its uploaded you can see the code anyway?!

I was always under the impression that if a script installed on my server under my account then I have the full source code but apparently that is not always correct.

It is correct. If its installed on your account you'll be able to access, view, edit etc., any and all files. There is no way for partial cpanel access. You can create the database and have him give you the .sql file to import the database with..Or you can create the database and give him the info if his script has a db setup part of it...
Sounds like the guy doesn't know what he's on about.

The only way I think of, he may wants to make it work only with my domain and then encrypt the file so that I won't be able to modify it later but again I am not sure if this is possible for him to do, how he is going to encrypt the files .

Create an ftp account and only give the account the ability to access one directory of your choosing using cpanel.

Well yeah - encrypted with zend or ioncube etc., - shouldnt require him to do it though..you can upload encrypted files too

Maybe he wants to install something dodgy along with the script. I'd be very very wary of giving him any access at all and insist he allows you to install.

Okay then, I will give him a restricted ftp access and see what he is going to do, I am not very familiar with Ioncube and Zend but I assume these are encrypted tools that can not be de-encrypted.
