So to follow up with the last thread I made, about how to make a decent income online.

If you are a newbie and want to understand what Freelancer is, read the FIRST PART HERE.

There are a lot of people interested in this and I will keep my promise and share more advices with you. Until you have the right mindset to succeed in Freelancer.

So from the questions, I see that the big problem is taking project while you don't have any positive review.

How to get your FIRST PROJECT:
So, Why the client will give his project to you? and not to the other 8 - 66 freelancers?
The project owner wants to give his project to someone who have a GOOD REPUTATION (positive reviews) and a GOOD PRICE and also a good bidding letter.

The last two conditions are very easy, but the first one is hard to get. You want to get the first project to build your reputation and they want good reputation to give you that project. You see the Irony in that, It's like here in Morocco: You are looking for a job to get experience and they want experience to give you that job.

So If you think and believe that this is the reason why you are not getting any projects. The solution is simple: Buy reviews or exchange reviews with other freelancers just starting out.
Give yourself something like 5 positive reviews, make them as real as possible.

You can also PM and I will help you out with that. I guess when it comes to good reputation, everything is clear now.

You need to get the project owners to TRUST YOU:
So your bidding cover letter needs to show that you are CONFIDENT of what you do and that you are trust worthy. If it's impossible make a website showing the similar projects you have done in the past.

Don't be eager to get the first project, there's a lot of competition, normally you need to bid in 60 projects ( more or less ) to get one project. (Freelancer statistics)

Also you can make a udemy course in the field you want to work in, Make it available for Free, with -100% coupon code until you get + 2000 students. Then change it into 57$ and include the link of your course with your bidding cover letter.

The employee will see that you have more than 2000 students and would assume you are an expert. And will most likely give you the project. And maybe some new students will find the course and buy it with 57$ :D

Look for clients outside of FREELANCER:
You dont' need to wait until you get a project in Freelancer, I mean come on. You can use Google and search for people who needs the service that you provide.

Thanks to @healzer here's the FULL TUTORIAL on how to do that. He covered everything and really inspired me. Please read his thread + the questions and answers in the comments.

If you don't read everything you can find, you will never succeed.
Also post any question you have in the comments. I'm here to help.
If you find this thread helpful, don't forget to hit that thanks button ;).

This method is only great for those who have decent english. Like me with poor english, it almost doesn't fit me, anyway, this is a great method as I also outsource my article on upwork to U.S.A. and I am sure a lot of people would like to outsource on these platform like me. So if you have great english and enough patient and enough time, you will surely earn some money even if no more than 4000 to start with your other projects. Great

@diso333 nice share mate, I am sure many are struggling at first and it's a competitive market out there so this will help all newcomers

not necessarily, depends on your project, you might offer you coding skills, seo services, translation into your own language or anything else that you know how to do.

You are right, if you don't know how to do that project .. you can outsource is and pay less and keep the difference. I did it too a lot of times :D

No english isn't my first language, but I have a good level on it. Start reading a lot of articles in English, watch English movies with substitle focus on words and their meaning. series anything.
that's how I improved my english.

    what do you mean :D

    The part where you say
"So, Why the client will give his project to you? and not to the other 8 - 66 freelancers?"

This is something many of us can excel at.
When I was Freelancing many many years ago I was working with pure luck; I said "I hope they choose me".
But nowadays I'm on the other side of the fence, I'm hiring freelancers.
I notice that some freelancers go one step further than the other 99%.
I always hire those who do a little bit extra for me.
Sometimes a Freelancer adds me on Skype or sends me an email, by surprise (I don't even know how they found it lol...)
But instead of trying to ask me for the job / project, they propose to work an hour for free, or deliver a free sample before getting paid. That's what I like about them!

Freelancing has always been hard, I've been on both sides of the fences, when hiring a freelancer, applying is also key
I do not have the time to check out 60 people for a 1 week position.
I'll go over their rates, if they are too low I'll see their portfolio to see why it's so low, if it's too high I won't even bother.
Always try to apply first and be sure your work speaks for you, if you are trying to target cheap people that will expect crap then go ahead,
many take that route. But I think it's best to create quality in order to attract quality clients and thus, keep getting better and eventually you won't need to freelance anymore :)

if you guys have problems with your english skills, you can buy fiverr gigs, sure you won´t make as much profit as you were doing the job yourself but, you will surely make a profit nonetheless.
