    hey there guys,

There have been quite a few threads on neg seo in the past. I have been reading up on it lately and as a new comer just starting out it has made me a little paranoid. I understand SEO is always a changing game and you can expect anything to happen at any given time. What I really want to know is that how often do websites get hit with neg SEO? I am just starting out with an authority style site that is newly built and there are only 2 or 3 competitors in this niche. If I start ranking above them they might go the devils route. While the probability may be high or low, I just want to be prepared for the worst case scenario. If my site, this one or any other ones that I create in the future get hit by a ton of crappy links then what is the best route to take? abandon the site or fight it? Also would disavowing those links be enough to get your rankings back in the serps?

If any of you have recovered from or been in a terrible situation like this what did you do to overcome it? I know a lot of people will say do the same to your competitors but how can you be sure who did it, it's not fair to screw someone over based on assumptions. If they had nothing to do with it you're destroying their hard work for no reason and that just makes you as bad as the person who did this to you in the first place.

I'm just trying to learn more and start a healthy discussion, all responses will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Joe

Don't worry about it! Only a few scumbags do negative SEO. If you ever get in a situation where somebody is attacking your site like that, it's best to take out your disavow tool and fight back. Otherwise you'll be sending out a message saying that all it takes for a site to be dumped are a few bad links. And yes, if you manage to disavow all of the bad links that show up in your Google webmaster's tools, then you'll be fine. Pat Flynn had quite a lot of trouble with one of his niche sites, but despite everything it has been no 1 on Google for its main keyword for years.

Aside from disavowing the bad links and building more good links, there's hardly anything more you can do to counteract a negative SEO attack. No one is currently attacking your sites, so if I were you, neg SEO would be the least of my worries.

I never had a lot of issues with negative SEO and sometimes I have heard reports of peoples
websites actually ranking better after an attack happens. Don't sweat it and start building your
    sites man! :)

This is true. BUT, if you're scared of anything SEO is not the game for you. There is quite literally nothing guaranteed in SEO except for constant fluctuation. If you want consistency and not having to worry about outside influence do paid traffic.
