So I had something I wanted to bring up for those making facebook accounts, to use on the >Advertising section.

    "Facial Recognition Software"

From my understanding, I first heard about this idea years, and I mean years ago when I would watch shows about "Las Vegas Cheaters" on TV. They would say things like "we know who you are before you step into the casino". This thought came into my head when I would add photos to facebook, and "it would know where someones face is". Now although this is a "cool feature", do you think this is used for a more sinister use? For example; being used as a "fingerprint" to see if any other facebook profiles were made with (THIS) face?

Maybe we should cruise amateur porn sites and find "self pics" to try and get new content? Or am I just being paranoid?

If I made 2, 5, 10 profiles with "similar photos", or "existing photos" amongst other profiles - can't they thumbprint that shit?

The companies worth billions, I would say yes...

    Your thoughts?

i don't think they are using that to check for multiple profiles, but probably it will happen at some stage when antispam measures need to be tightened

my personal fb acc which i run ads on has no real pics of me.

putting these wild ideas out there, works better than actually implementing them for facebook.

once you cant figure out why its not working you resort to believing in someones assumptions

As long as politics won't protect privacy, yes, it is a legitimate threat. Sooner or later they might even use your webcam without asking you to check who you are.

yeah this was a legitimate thought... I saw a post to where one guy was like "resize, and run a few filters on your images" on a free image thread, so that also made me think of this idea. It's something I havent really seen discussed so I thought the idea would make for a good thread/discussion. I personally think its being implemented though...
