I don't care if I was making $1,000 a day. I wouldn't be crouching in the middle of any New York sidewalk picking up gold in between cracks.

As would I. But scraping gold up from cracks in the middle of a new york street is a whole other story.

I don't think outsourcing would make sense for this type of venture.

1) The outsourced worker has very little incentive not to cut him out of the picture.
2) The worker could steal the best parts and claim they never were found.
3) I think the man enjoys his work, I know I would find it quite exciting.
4) I don't think there is any way to scale it up.
5) Since the only investment is his time, and he doesn't seem like he wants to work, its less profit for him.

Agreed. I don't see why its a bad way to earn a living. Its exciting, lots of exercise, meet interesting people, no 2 days are the same, have awesome story to tell people, and he got on TV for it. Better than 90% of other jobs I can think of.

I would even would say better then 98% of other jobs I can think of.
 
it could easily be outsourced, you don't tell the people there is gold in the sidewalks obviously you just tell them you will pay them to clean out the sidewalks because they are dirty and to collect any material inside a coffee can that will be used for analysis back at your research department to determine pollution rates in the NYC.. :) -blackhat
 
Used to DM for a gold buying company, this is an interesting take on the biz. Kudos to this guy for taking action.

I like this take on it. You could just toss some hobos a twenty here and there and have them bring you cans of dirt. They would think that you were crazy of course and that they were taking avantage of you. lol
