Page 1 of high competition keywords but no traffic

The title says it all, I'm in a weird position...

My website is on the first page of keywords like "Relaxation," which gets approximately 2 million views a month

in addition to this, there are tons and tons of different keywords I have..


I'm just not figuring it out, even with such amazing keywords, my website barely breaks 120 hits a day.

I'm very sure its not. You should check your ranking with some professional tool or try it after logging out of your gmail account (if any), and clearing your cache. This will give you a better idea of where your website ranks.

By default Web history is active, this is probably the problem. You can turn it off at the right top corner at Google.com.

Eh believe me, it is.

It's definitely there, google analytics + all the rank tracking programs state it.

How are you tracking them try satatcounter and see if there is a difference.

Google keyword tool lies.

Search for "Sex" (exact match) in google's keyword tool. Then check for that site that ranks 2nd on 'sex' in google (1st being wikipedia, from what i remember). that site gets 15.000 visitors / day. (5 page views / user aka 350.000 impressions daily). Where is the 1.000.000 exact searches that people do on 'sex' ?

And this is not the only case. Even if you put google exact (not broad or phrase), you still have to divide that number by 10 (or so) so get an estimate on how much traffic you will receive. :-/

Are your page titles and descriptions compelling enough for people to clickthrough to your site pages?

It doesnt matter if your number one, if the text people see on the search engines isnt what they are looking for, they wont clickthrough to your site.

Is anything badly wrong with the Google Keyword Tool Old Interface? My results with both of'em are quite different. Not sure, whether to go with it or not. :jaw:

Are you sure you that you change "Broad" to "Exact"?
And if they still are different, the no. of searches would be somewhere between both results.

Go to google webmaster tools,and see the Impressions that you got in the first page,if the impressions are low then Google keyword are wrong,if the impressions are high so the top sites is getting all the trafic.

2 Million Views each month??? Where are you getting your numbers?!? What tool tells you how many views a keyword gets each month? Do you mean searches? Because I seriously doubt your keyword gets 2 million searches each month.

hmm... when I checked i'm getting 4,400 exact local and 22,000 global it's usually a little closer to the local number in most cases and you said your on the first page not the first position if your not in the first 3 or 4 positions you can only expect to get about 3% of the traffic or so so take 4,400 x .03 = and you get 132 so if your getting "120 hits a day" I would count my blessings because your doing better than the big G says you will.

Both anmol77 & gasman are 100% correct.

When I first started serp ranking I made the huge mistake of not doing multiple checks against several tools.

-> not understanding the difference between exact / phrase / broad traffic

and how much the drop off is from the #3 to #7 for natural serp results.

It's never 100 percent guaranteed but when talking with other site owners and checking against the Compete tool

they tend to be close to my research.

What serp position do you have and what is the total number of results for Google Adwords keyword tools -exact- match local results? don't tell us your keyword!
