I was thinking that is it worth it to start my own blog network/social network? It would not be in english and competition is not that hard locally, but I was wondering how much own effort it will take and how hard it is to monetize (maybe at first just get traffic, then add adsense and option to buy those ads away)?

If anyone has any inside info or experience in this I would love to hear!

It's not easy to maintain a blog network/social network.

Unfortunately Big SN sites have big didicated server costs. And if by any chance you don't get popular - you are in the red zone. Getting a SN site up and sunning and getting people to use it is incredibly difficult and I suggest you spend your time on something else.
Sure, if you succeed it will be very profitable, but if you don't, which is much more likely, it will be a huge waste of time and money.
Don't mean to burst your bubble, but that's the world.

    Peace.

Care to explain why? (Im not arguing, just want to hear the reasons)

Yeah, server costs will be something, but since this would not be targeted to the english crowd, there would be much less traffic. And of course much less earning potential too.

If I search for this local term for blog 1st result is just a list of different blogs, 2nd one is wikipedia definition for blog and then first blog network. Only 3 blog networks in 1st page. For a local term "Free blog" there is bit more competition, but still easier than some financial terms I have ranked 1st.

Traffic travis gives me medium difficulty to both for what its worth.

Do you still think its not worth it?

Personally, I would give it a shot.

Why? Because it has the potential to be huge if played correctly.

BUT, I wouldn't invest anything from start, until I see some real life potential for revenue.

Give it a shot, it might work, it might not. There is nothing to lose and you will
gain experience if you are smart about it.

I wish you the best of luck!
