I have a keyword that i am hoping to top google with. The top 3 in google are, amazon, ebay, youtube.

They have zero backlinks to that page and low PA. But i understand that these are heavyweight websites which count for an awful lot when ranking.

The rest of the top ten has a couple of rivals going after the same stuff as me and some news websites. One rival has 150k backlinks. One news article has 800 backlinks.

Does this sound like an easy or hard keyword?

Check where are the backlinks coming from for you competitors and then you can decide if it is easy or hard keywords

I think amazon gets a special treatment, and some others aswell. And their internal backlinks are huge, it won't be easy I think.

I guess if you don't mind wasting money, you could try. Then atleast you'd know how hard it is to outrank them in the future.

Is there still money to be made getting into the top ten? Or are we after top spots instead?

I've already created the sites so pretty sick about this!

When huge brands such as amazon, ebay, etc appear on the first page, IT IS A GREAT SIGN.

Why? Simple, these huge brands do not have an active seo effort for particular subniche and microniche products; they rank for all of them due to their stats and their obvious relevance.

The problem comes when you see a bunch of "smaller" brands or websites or even affiliate sites; well, a problem that can always be solved, but it is always better to see amazon on top than affiliate or private company sites.

All you need to do is to create a strong brand and market it properly, don't just focus on SEO for 1 single keyword... unless you are going BH of course.

    Best of luck

Mine is not an opinion; done it many times and it is well possible to do it. Does it not make sense that if they are not actively pursuing those keywords, if you build a strong brand, you will be able to outrank them because your site will be more relevant?

You can target a specific audience way better than amazon ANY day.

Of course, if all you've got is a couple of hundred dollars and no marketing team, it will be really hard. But same for any other niche... IM nowadays is getting way more expensive, specially since reaching your audience through other means has become pretty much necessary if you want to stay ahead in the game.

Anyways, if you have money, go ahead... you will easily outrank them and do better in that particular niche; if you don't have money, then refrain from going ahead with any plan (unless you go the bh route of course).

To outrank such site you need a good SEO strategy though it may take some time to see positive result.

Get authority links preferably home page backlinks
Links should be relevant to your niche
    Low OBL

    Cheers

Outranking top authority websites. Don't you have any better ideas to waste your money for?

Why not start out with some long tails first, become a bit of authority in G's eyes on the niche, and target your head term long term?

There is rival sites in the top ten that have old domain age but nothing special to scare me away.

I am a total beginner in IM. Should i just go after these anyway and try and rank in the top ten?

I dont know if this makes a different but traffic travis says "relatively easy"

Can you rank amazon for a keyword? yes. Will it be easy? Depends on your skills. If you search online you can find that many websites rank on top of amazon, if the keyword has a low search

In my experience, fighting authority sites with high authority backlinks works well in many cases. High volume low quality links won't do much here.

I do not have thousands and thousands of dollars to throw at this and i do not have a SEO team.

I have a handful or writers and some seo tools haha.

I actually have 3 newly created sites where i sell my own item and i am up against some well known sellers of the products.

1 of my sites is ecommerce and the other 2 are sales pages. I must add the content on the sales pages is top quality.

I agree with this as well, it is a lot easier to rank compete against Amazon where you are just against domain authority than against other people actively doing SEO.
