I've seen a lot of threads on how to outrank things like Wikipedia, mayoclinic, webmd etc etc.

But lately I've been coming across forum posts ranked in the top 5 for a keyword. The particular keyword is 300k in quotes competition so it's not a small niche.

Its a thread on a forum with less than 250 backlinks, yet it occupies the #2 spot.

What are your thoughts and previous experiences on outranking a forum thread?

    Thanks in advance.

I have never really seen a straight answer from anyone with the whole "how to out rank Wikipedia".

I assume some good onsite SEO and some quality links should outrank the forum post, because you would think the forum post would have bad on site. (h1, meta etc)

Thanks for the insight. This will be my first time trying to rank for a pretty hard keyword (for me) 10k searches a month, 300k in quotes.

    So I'll take any insights.

Hoping someone out there has attempted to outrank a forum.

Sign up for the forum and post on the thread with an invisible link to your site in your sig.

I'm currently dealing with the exact same thing.

    Do a few things:

    1. Either manually or outsource someone to go into all of the forums that rank on the top 2 pages for your keyword, and have them create a profile and comment on the forum stating that your money site is the answer to the question. Also put the link into the profile itself.

    2. If you have the budget, run a small xrumer (google it) blast to your page from same-niche forums (assuming it isnt BRAND new). Obviously google is treating forums seriously for your keyword.

    3. Do your normal SEO routine. Do not ping any of your xrumer blast, let google drip feed index them.
