I had Lounge thread about being too bored to work, and someone said that I'd should pick up a new project. Didn't look like something I'd actually bother doing, but by chance I ran across some stuff and everything just clicked in place. I though that keeping a journey of it might make me actually work on it more :p Anyhow, small intro about me below.

Like most us on BHW and IM in general, I also started off with PPB (Pay-Per-Bullshit) over two years ago, promoting stuff like game mods and nonexistent game downloads (think about GTA5 on PC at the time). We all know that this stuff does work, and as Kinlee?s awesome thread shows having people return is much more sustainable long term solution. Not that this is any surprise to anyone.

Anyhow, after that I more or less mended my ways and started with adult dating and for the moment I?m running couple sites that are not by any means big fishes (or Big Dogs, eyyyyyyy) but easily pay my living and make me able to save some money as well. I?m working on these sites pretty much daily and since there?s not a reason to jump into any other business model I haven?t really given more thought to it - until now.

I was just generally fucking around and ran across a search term that was just five letters long. Decided to check on it, and I was struck: 90.000+ searches per month and not much competition to mention (see Keyword #1). The term itself should be monetizable with ebook relating to it and the general niche around it, and since I could very well include some of my main projects into the ebook itself (no aff links or anything), while getting the initial money off of them with the download and then offering them a free trial of the service and hooking them to pay. Double win. And yes, this is all non-English like stated in the title.

For the moment my ebook content is about half way done (15 pages so far, expecting something like 40-45 after formatting) and my blog is mainly just missing the actual blog content which I will most likely be creating as we go. I?m aiming to get everything done by early July.
I know I?m starting the thread a bit early, but it?s just to get people hop on right from the beginning. And anyhow we?re talking talking about a week tops before I start to push it.

I have one old and more or less unused domain (see SERPBook screenshot) that I will have to renew for the project, German hosting from Servinio running WP with customized Responsive-theme and monetization via CPAGrip with customized offer page for my weaponry.

You can see that the domain is actually indexed, but there's no real ranking in there. This is where we'll start from.

Basically the idea is both to rank the site for my main keyword to get organic traffic as well as utilize guerrilla marketing on local forums. This has worked for my main sites nicely, so with little tweaking I don't see why not now. I'm not much into YT, but we'll see how things go. The site itself is basically a big landing page with call to action (to download the ebook via the content locker worth $5-$10 a pop), made to look as legitimate as possible with ?About Me? section and whatnot. I also make use of the blog feature to publish totally original 500+ words content there, accessible from the front page and interlinking both to the main site as eel as directly to the offer. I?m planning to publish posts bi-weekly. I also assume that at least for starters I'll update this thread also bi-weekly untill I start to get downloads more frequently.

This will be my main target with 90.000 searches per month. See the Market Samurai competition analysis below, and while I?ve blurred it out, they are mostly just some random forum discussions so while their root domain will give them a push, it shouldn?t be impossible to rank over them.

Keyword with much more competition, and thus this will just be a secondary objective - or no objective at all. There?s old sites with lots of experience under their belt, some of them I haven?t even been able to yet beat with my main sites, but I?ll take all the traffic I may get.

Okay now I?m just joking, I guess. Way too much competition at least for starters, we?ll see later on.

    • My laptop, mid-2012 MBP where I do all my work. I have it hooked up to 42? TV for extra workspace. I?ll be moving in early August so then I can beef up my battlestation with my old MB (early-2009) and hopefully change my display to couple smaller ones like 32?
    • WordPress.org
    • Shared hosting from Servinio. Been with these guys since I started in IM, highly recommended if all you need is cheap shared hosting!
    • CPAGrip for content locking. I still have to set that one really up, but I?ll need my actual content for that first. I have, however, un-selected any possibly bad (mostly grammatically) offers from what they have for my target country. See my selections below. That?s quite many, and I?ll tweak it later according to what sells and what doesn?t.
    • Mad skillz
    [IMG]

    • I?m also looking to acquire GSA and TBS when I get my next payment (damn you Hotels.com, Y U still keep my deposit from nearly two weeks ago?) to help both my main projects as well as this one. I?ll also need some proxies and cheap ($10-20/mo) VPS for the tools, but I?ll look into that when I actually have the need for it.

For this project I?m using one year old .me domain I originally got from NameCheap for like $0.99 or something, so I need to renew it for $18 before starting out. For your reference, any cheaper domain (dotcom, dotinfo, etc.) does just as well, I just have this nicely brandable domain at my disposal so I?ll use it despite it being a tad more expensive. The hosting I?m able to provide for myself from one of my many packages, but the entry-level package from Servinio costs $1.91 so I?ll calculate by that. Everything else up to this point has been free and just matter of working on it myself.

    -$18
    -$1.91

    TOTAL:
    -$19.91

As this is just a secondary project for me (I know, this sound like I?ll abandon it tomorrow, but bear with me!) I don?t want to set too strict deadlines as like I said most of my times goes into working my main moneymakers anyhow. And thus I?ve decided upon January 1st 2015. I know, shouldn?t take that long to hit $50 a day, but I just want to give myself some leeway.

Overall this project should benefit my main sites as well, not by direct linking but rather via distributed content, so the reason to work on it is there.

Okay, sorry for taking so much time.

Good luck with your journey! One advice, build your list on the way. You could as easily ask visitors to signup on mailing list to get eBook and mail them that PPD link when they join.

This way you can milk them later (think CB products or you could write eBook V2 etc...).

Just out of interest, what language is the Keyword in? Or would that be too much of a giveaway?
    Good Luck

Added Ahrefs stats just to show what I'm starting with. Nothing spectacular.

Thanks! And like I wrote, the goal is not only to create another income stream, but also supplement my main projects so that should give more dedication towards this. At least for now I won't be directly linking one to another other than via the ebook.

I was actually looking into it, but it got me wondering how well people take it if first they need to enter their email address and confirm it, and then fill in a survey? Might give the feeling that the amount of tasks is neverending? Anyway, might give it a go though, MailChimp was free until 2,000 members IIRC so I could just start off with that.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Thanks! Good luck to you too!

    ---

I'm nearly done with the book, I have 30 pages of text now and still need to format it so I guess I'll go tad under what I expected, but I just cut out some content that I found out being more or less just useless filler anyhow. I'll post more in-depth message about the creation for those interested in how to actually create ebook content like this for their own CPA or whatever needs. Full with free ecovers and everything.

My plan for today (if I can get rid of missus bothering me, lol) is to get the project online, meaning:

    • The book done - nearly done, just formatting and proofreading left
    • Content locker - basically done, did that for one other same language site last night to make use of its 100 or so UV's a day also, so I got the translated template. Will write more about this later.
    • Website done - nearly done, just need the URL for the content locker and couple little tweaks before submitting everything.
    • Two 500+ word blog posts for the website - this I still need to write today.

So I'd assume that this initial phase will be done today. Will write more detailed post about the steps while all the above is done!

So I got my book done and my WP online, so I though it might be a good idea to go a bit more indepth about those two plus the monetization method. This post will be more aimed for the newbs that might be struggling with how to do stuff and decide upon something that (should) works. So here goes.

Obviously the content that I'm going to monetize will come first, as this will not be just bullshitting people to think they get something that might not even exist. I know many take that road because it simply works and is much faster to setup and usually yelds to high conversions, but I plan to keep this one up long term so I went and created 30-something pages of actual and valid information. Now this is obviously not some holy grail of information, as if it was I'd be selling it for the highest bidder, more like the usual stuff that most end users in this niche just seem to pass by. Think of the dog training niche example (oh how I love that one!) having a book about the importance of correct nutrition for your canine. Same deal here, kinda.

So really what I did was to fire up Word, write my stuff full with legal notes ("This book doesn't necessarily make you a millionaire overnight, so don't sue me!") and table of contents, formatted it nicely and presentably and saved as PDF. Word does that automatically, and not only does it increase compatibility with especially mobile devices it also gives that ebook-ishy feeling that the end user has gotten something more than a bare document. Just remember to change or delete your name from the file preferences before printing it out, as at least I do use my own name on my Mac and the little snitch prints it to everywhere.

Now one other thing regarding the ebook I'd like to write, is the ecover that can (and should!) be used in the promotion. You know, those cool looking little book covers? Yeah, I'll tell you how to create simple one in Photoshop for free. This method generates 1953x2190 resolution ebook cover, that should be enough for majority of your needs. The action file is from 2009, but I have Photoshop CS6 and despite one error in one of the steps everything works just nicely. See my sample below, also the download link.

    Download the action file here:
    Code:
    http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/free-photoshop-action-to-create-ebook-covers/
If the file becomes unavailable for some reason, just PM me, I still have it.

And here's a sample cover I created with the action in under a minute. I know it kinda shows, but the point was to show how high quality (see background and text) the thing actually outputs. It can be done transparent without any issues.
    Code:
    http://i.imgur.com/LiBy0e2.jpg

Okay, enough about that, now onto my WP setup.

I'm sure many are familiar with self-hosted WP, and if you're not you should! The amount of freedom is nearly unbelievable you can achieve with this thing. What many people just happen to do is basically misuse this freedom, and they clutter their installation so that overall it becomes a real PITA for the users. Sure we as marketers might enjoy all kinds of data being shown around and newsletter registration forms popping up everywhere, but the users don't want that. So everything in moderation. In this journey I go fo simplicity.

    Theme
For theme I'm using the Responsive theme. I've removed the logo/text (via editing the php file directly), as well as the main menu and just kept the footer menu for T&C and Privacy information. I have the main section describe my book a little, the ecover there and then direct, cloacked (see below) link to the CPA.

Other than that I have three widgets down: "About Me", 5 newest blog posts and three (totally made-up) reviews. So a very simple site, loads up fast and for most fills the screen with the content that matters - the call to action button.

    Plugins
I will not use much plugins here to keep the site loading as fast as possible, since I've decided against tracking user interaction on teh site and just track the clicks. I also won't be collecting emails as that doesn't make much sense here, as I can grab hundreds of emails daily via other means if I really want (and I do, don't get me wrong!).

    • GoCodes - My go-to plugin for link cloaking since long time ago. With this you can create "domain.com/go/your-url" type of cloaks that will direct the user to the CPA offer but not show the URL for them in their browser before they actually land to the page.

And that's it. Seriously! I haven't installed anything useless, as there's simply no need for them.

Pingdom gives this site the ranking of 72/100 with load time of 1.1 sec and page size of just over 200 KB. One could still go more into the optimization of the couple images I have there, but this should be good enough!

I'll be publishing one 500+ words blog post with two CC-attributes photos from Flickr and/or an embedded YouTube video once a week. In the beginning I'll submit two articles a week to populate the content a bit, but that's my plan for the future.

The content is basically just manually translated from English EzineArticles content, and yes it works just fine.

Aight, the monetization. Like I wrote before, I'm going with CPAGrip. The things I've done there:

    • Dropped offers with bad translations
    • Manually translated the offer pages to improve user trust and thus conversion

For the moment I'll show all six offers to people when they are sent to select the offers, but in the future when I star to get some info what offers work and what won't, I'll just drop the useless ones.

    ---

Okay, I'll guess that's quite a lot for just one day. Now my site is getting all the current content indexed. and I'll start with submitting it into some local blog aggregators that have and keep having some impact into my current projects. I'll also start creating my first tier of 2.0 properties, although I think I'll only do just three for the starters and see how it goes.

I should be getting one aff payment by the end of the week, so that's when I'll go and get GSA and VPS and stuff. Been playing around with free VPS and free version of GSA to familiarize myself with it, and looks just magnificent tool - especially for spamming the shit out of lower tiers.

Good luck with your thread, I also know one northern language - too bad there aren't many people who speak it. Anyways, why do you say the kw #3 is alot harder than kw #1?

...will tell you what I did yesterday :p

Basically I made up 5 web 2.0's that will act as Tier 2. I will be skipping T1 here and just use my existing blog "network" of mainly self-hosted WP installations spread across multiple hosting companies both in EU (DE/FR) and US. These are not, once again, any hard-hitters, being generally around DA 15 and PA 30, but they start to have time and ranking under their belt anyhow.

This is once again an attempt to bring my stuff closer without actually interlinking them, as I'm pretty sure this venture will never in thousand moons provide more than my current ones do, and since they're pretty much the same niche I don't want to do too much unnecessary work here.

Anyhow, my 2.0's are created in high quality, meaning that they all have detailed About Me page (with photo), Contact Me form and some even sport photo galleries that contain few Flickr-found, CC-attributed photos. Generating something like this in e.g., Weebly's site creator takes only couple minutes and not only does it look pretty good, it also looks very legit. I know what people think about website builders - they such, too generic, etc. - and I agree, I'd never build an actual site with such tools, but for legitimate-looking 2.0's they're a godsend. For the niches, they're not exact match (many say this doesn't matter, but I wanted to make a littel distance here), but rather something that I can incorporate my PPD site niche easily. Think about writing about dog training, and then having a food blog that happens to write about dog food at times. I plan to link only like every other blog post back tops.

I'll start dripping my articles on my blogs starting now, so I hope to see some SERP movement soon enough.

Thanks. It's free font called Dark Web Warrior :)3:), using the same color as my nickname and just edited in Photoshop.

...started my day with a cup of coffee. Like I start each and every of my mornings.

Been little busy with my main projects, as usual, but I've done some content for the 2.0's and I hope the old indexed content of my domain will drop soon. So far haven't seen any SERP movement (although I admit I haven't done much about it), but I can see Ahrefs picking up some of my new links with new kw already. So far the distribution is

    • KW 1: 14%
    • KW 2: 43%
    • Title of my newest blog post: 14%

I think the last one just got picked up on some blog aggregator "Newest posts" module or something, and will drop soon.

I think I'll just drop some entry-level link BST on this one to boost it up. Already got my payslip so the actual payment shouldn't be far behind, expecting tomorrow.

Looks interesting. Have a question about CPAGrip as I'm not familiar with it and it's not clear from your posts. Is this an "all in one service"? i.e. it has the content locker plus all the offers inside so you don't have to get offers from other companies?

Yeah, they provide you with bunch of offers for all the countries supported, and you're able to choose which offers to use or not to use. They offer:

    • Content Lockers (aka. full page lockers)
    • URL / File Lockers
    • Video Lockers (for embedded videos)
    • Offer Walls
