    From time to time I will post orm viral events here. This one is going viral fast.

    Atlanta gym owner makes no apologies for 'No Cops' sign

    "We've had an explicitly stated 'No Cop' policy since we opened, and we also don't open membership to active members of the military," the business owner said.

    Article here http://www.11alive.com/news/eav-gym-owner-makes-no-apologies-for-no-cops-sign/462861350

    Yelp account here https://www.yelp.com/biz/eav-barbell-club-atlanta

    Total reviews as of 8-9-17 1230pm 18 live reviews 7 filtered the yelp media alert active cleanup filter is not live yet.

    It takes usually about 30 fast 1 star reviews to trip the active cleanup filter.

    I saw that on a news site earlier today... the guy is catering to people who are uncomfortable around cops.

    Who does that thinking it is a wise business move?

    How much dope, collectively, does his current clients bring into his club on a weekly basis?

    On a monthly basis?

    Update 8-9-17 150pm currently 21 live reviews and 9 filtered reviews. The yelp active cleanup filter has not been tripped yet.
    * Side note the facebook page for above has 2,759 Reviews. From a seo point of view it will be interesting to see how page 1 results will stack up later.

    Some people just don't like the army. In the software industry there are some people that try to prevent their products to be used by anyone and anitubg related to the military.

    Some software licensees even have a "don't use for evil" clause.

    Update 8-9-17 9pm 43 live reviews mostly 1 star go figure. 20 filtered reviews. The yelp active cleanup filter not tripped yet.

    * it could be that it takes 30 filtered reviews during a certain time period.

    Dang it I made some errors and typos there, hate that we cannot edit our posts after some time has passed.

    update 8-10-17 815am 56 live reviews and 28 filtered. The yelp active cleanup has not been tripped yet.

    * interesting side note. The actual rating is about 1.5 stars. There appears to be a few 5 star reviews from supporters.
    This is a unusual situation of a business receiving negative viral content but getting positive reviews from supporters of his message. It will be interesting to see how yelp plays this.

    Update 8-13-17 8:29 pm 94 live reviews and 66 filtered. The yelp active cleanup is still not live. It's a guess that it's not part of the algo and is probably human controlled.

    Let me see if I get this, you're pretty much ok with people rating negative because they don't support him, but you're uncomfortable with people rating positive because they do support him. What link of logic you have boy.

    Kind of impressive that as a small business they've managed to maintain 1-2-3 for their business name despite this massive national backlash. Everything below that is a complete nightmare scenario, though.

    As a former bailbondsman, I remember this donut shop owner who forbade cops from coming into the store, she quickly closed down 3 months afterwards. Moral of the story? Understand your customer base...

    Hey, I'm just keeping track of this to see how it pans out later. I'm just documenting observations in the event yelp wipes out all the reviews. My thinking is that a few 5 star reviews have kept the active cleanup filter from being tripped.

    It's a orm case study, so i'll try to update this every so often. Maybe later down the road after a few case studies, understanding yelp's algo will be a little easier.

    * Update 8-15-17 940am 92 live and 68 filtered

    * Major Update 8-19-17 1244pm
    It looks like they wiped out the entire yelp account or started a new one. It appears that it's a new one, and it's unclaimed. https://www.yelp.com/biz/eav-barbell-club-atlanta-3 Currently 2 live and 2 filtered. The 3 at then end prob means 3rd account.

    Also, the Google My Business account/listing is coming up closed.

    Update 9-1-17 8:45am No live reviews and 1 filtered. Look like they closed not sure if yelp did or business owner did the old yelp page and the new one which is unclaimed is live now.
    In this case, the viral content buzz died after about 3 weeks, at least when it comes to yelp reviews. Facebook is a different story.

    Summary - When initial news first hit, the yelp account for Eav Barbell Club was extremely active with neg and positive reviews. In this case, the political views of the business owner generated a 70% bad and 30% good of incoming viral content reviews. In other cases of let's say 90% or more bad - reviews coming in, the yelp Active cleanup filter would be activated. In this case the yelp page was closed by the owner or yelp and a new one that's unclaimed popped up. The gold nugget here is that in future situations, it may help to sprinkle some good reviews in. If the active cleanup filter does not get activated, then one of the few and only choices left would be to delete or close the existing page and start over when the new buzz is dying out.
