If you want a free & quick way to organize your desktop, try this program:

    http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/

Seems like a really small thing but it's made a big psychological difference for me.

Just having a "fence" between work and non work stuff helps me to easily identify the programs and documents I need to get cracking faster & procrastinate less.

Try it and you'll find your desktop is in much less of a muddle.

    nice :)

i'm currently using dexpot to segregate my workspaces. its a virtual desktop manager like compiz, but for windows. just installed it a few days ago and it's making a huge difference my organization & productivity. like, there's no need to repeatedly minimize things any more when you can just throw them onto another desktop =D. only downside is you start running out of memory when you have too many programs open lol.

I found that simply using different workstations work best for me. Instead of bogging down 1 workstation for everything, I segeregate my work on different boxes by priority, for instance downloads/shares I send to one machine that way if it gets infected, I don't have to re-image my production workstation with 100's of files and programs that some I don't even have the license for anymore.
