I am interested in picking up said domain that was registered in 2001. I checked wayback year after year up until late 2014 and the site was same content, images, etc. THEN in Oct 2014 up until now there was a Chinese site implemented with Chinese writing? Would you stay away from this domain?

I looked in Majestic and it does not show any Chinese backlinks and nothing on the Majestic map from China?

    Opinions?

Put it in a translator and see what that Chinese language is 'speaking', if it is something not normal and links to some shady sites then obviously you stay away. Even otherwise, i would stay away from a site which hosted Chinese and was indexed in Google that way, not worth the risk IMO.

Yes, do this. Make sure you checked the source as well for finding hidden links.

You can try to decipher it as mentioned above. I usually just move on from these though. While I might be missing out on a few domains, I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I usually stay away from foreign anchor texts as I generally didnt have good experience with Russian anchors.

You could try "translate" and see what they say but I usually don't bother. Chinese text = I always skip.
