    Looking not ooking lol

I've spent hours perusing through wordpress plugins and googling for anything that will do what i want, but i'm coming up empty handed.

I work for a company who's re-doing their website. I'm basically the project manager, but don't do any of the real work =D

This company sells services, and we want the visitors to be able to engage easily in (or start) conversations about the category (service) of the page they're on. (For example, if they wanted to ask for help about the service they could, if they wanted to chime in on a comment someone else posted about the service, they could do that too. If they wanted to criticize the service then that would also be possible)

We want a hub page for all the conversations happening regardless or category.

They want to be able to call up on the home page a few of the most recent or popular conversations happening.

Does anyone know of something which can do these things?

Please let me know if I've explained poorly what we're trying to accomplish.

I don't know any plug-in that can achieve everything you've mentioned, but there are a few things you might be able to do to achieve close to what you want. You could create a RSS comment feed, so you can display all the comments on another page. SimplePie Plug-in should help with the RSS Stuff. For the most recent or popular comments, wordpress has a widget that does that. You could also use the plug-in "intense debate" for better discussions/comments. Let me know if that helps.

    A late follow-up:

I have been looking into Intense Debate per paperdonut's recommendation, and i think this does do a lot of what we're after:

Here's a better list of criteria i've put together:
    -threaded comments
    -comments by category
    -user profiles
    -email notification
    -searchable comments
-ability to call a category of comments on a specific page
    -guest commenting
    -moderation

Intense Debate handles most of this, but there is something i can't exactly figure out. How do you tell it to accept comments for category X and then put that on a page? It seems by default it only wants to work with the posts on the blog area.
