It's been the law here in California for a year now. Just means you cannot pretend to be somebody else that actually exists. You can still create fake profiles, just cannot use them to mess with someone.

I'm not impersonating anyone in irc lol.

I really do not get this whole new internet bullshit where the government has to be so controlling and censor it over a few suicides.

    It went from this

    2002:
person A "Hey fag go fuck yourself"
    person B "Your the fag,cocksucker"

And Person B just flames back in 2002,and doesn't really care

    To this
    2012:
person A "Hey fag go fuck yourself"
    person B "Goodbye cruel World"

And person B goes and kills himself in 2012,and the government wants to make it illegal to flame.

What the fuck happened to people on the internet, where they can't take harassment and cyber bullying anymore.

But in the bill its going to even make it illegal to impersonate a person to "defraud" people. That makes it so broad that one could go to jail for simply creating a fake celeb twitter account or facebook account to make money from a CPA campaign.

Need to take preemptive measures happened. Interested parties are accelerating the steps towards control and censorship, and it only means they feel they'll be needing to contain and control information flow in the very near future. Any excuse will do, just look at how many different excuses have been made to implement the exact same policies - "we're trying to stop piracy", "we're trying to stop cyber bullying", "we're trying to stop fraud"- . It's not the escape goat you've got to see, but their goal (the perceived threat is there to avert your eyes from their goal, aka the trick, just like magicians do).

However, I don't care that much about these measures unless they try to outlaw nicknames (though I'm sure they'll affect me in the end, just like they will affect everyone else).
