On another thread, @Nargil said: "One page PBN sites were okay in 2012. It's not hard to completely filter them out by an algorithm. Red flags all over the place."

I am obviously a noobie with near to zero experience and knowledge and I always look up at some trusted members here. However, I am curious about Nargil's statement. Does Big G really red flagged one page sites? o_O

I tried to find — cherrypicking indeed — one page website that ranks high on SERP.

    The requirement:
    • keywords must be general or niche, not branded ones.
    • the one page must be on page one (not funny pun).

Here's what I found, the keywords and the ranked sites:
    • "design ethics" - ethicsfordesign.com
    • "fonts with color" - colorfonts.wtf
    • "above the fold" - abovethefold.fyi
    • "logo scalability" - responsivelogos.co.uk
Please take a look at the SERP yourself, since I didn't use incognito and obviously Big G catered the SERP for me.

I still believe one page can still get page one in 2018 and beyond. :)

And I can imagine buying a four-figure tightly-vetted expired domain from @Nargil plus a beautiful long-form crafted copy from @SensualTyrannosaurus and glue tiered backlinks from other Gods of PBN here can get us there.

    What do you guys think?

Disclaimer: I'm not a shill, not a person who can afford those expensive services too. Heck, not even a paying member here! Shame on me. :(

What @Nargil meant is that it is now not possible to keep on creating churn-and-burn one page sites and rank all of them on page one with the help of backlinks. And there are always exceptions.

It is nice to see a newbie researching instead of asking to be spoon-fed. No doubt, you'll succeed in IM even if you can't afford some services initially, because you're willing to work, search, research and test. Trust me, most of the dreamers don't even reach to the point that you've already surpassed. :)

You are mixing apples and oranges. I was talking about PBN domains, not money sites. You don't want to rank those, not necessarily. You want them to transfer link juice. And it's not hard for Google to filter them out by algorithm. Whether it's really so I do not know, I never stated it is so, but it's a very simple way to filter out the most obvious PBNs. If I were Google, any site with 1 - 3 pages and low OBL would be my target.

There was another thread a few days ago, where a guy was complaining about why his PBN don't do anything. The only conclusion that not just me, but anyone in the thread came up with was, that the domains don't have enough content on them. Also, there was another case study a while ago where site size was directly involved in higher Serps rating.

The keywords that you provided are basically no competition keywords without any commercial value. It's not hard to rank with anything for keywords that nobody cares about and in which there are no money to be made. Not even with Adsense. I can rank with "Bananas in chocolate with vanilla ice cream under $5" with no effort. Same goes for the keywords you mentioned.

Is it possible to rank with a 1 pager? Sure. Does it require significantly more offsite SEO effort? Yes it does. We know that there are certain practices and techniques that work. Just as we know that there are techniques and practices that do not work as they used to be. There's no sense in cutting corners and risking what you have built. Most of us have learned it the hard way.

However, I am very glad that you joined the conversation and that your post wasn't some "this is bullshit" kind of post. Really glad to see newbies actually use their heads. So good job!

While I always agree when people are suggesting they give me money, I would like to use some science to discredit the idea that I can write an article that will kick googles ass. I mean, I COULD, ya know, but lets go a different route.

Here's what you are not seeing: The back link story. Backlinks cannot be denied, as they are still one of the most important factors. How these companies have achieved them, is most likely due to the USEFULNESS of the website. So a site that is laden full of adsense, even google doesn't want to show. By the way, above the fold is hilarious in concept.

I'll let the screenshots do the talking.

@SensualTyrannosaurus thank you for the lesson! That's where the link building service kicks ass.

Can't wait to dump my 1,000 bitcoins to assemble the BHW avengers. :D

Well don’t go crazy just yet. Learn as much as you can, so you know WHAT to order.

I suggest going through all of the stickies in white hat seo.

The blackhat stuff is far easier to nuke your site with, so use extreme caution when handling any tactics you see listed on an OPEN FORUM.

Keep in mind, google has bots crawling here at all times, so the juicy stuff is kept behind the closed doors of membership levels.

I do want to make an emphasis to point out your post layout. It was very aesthetically pleasing! Job well done.

I 've seen lots of 10-15 pages sites in one very competitive niche.
BTW I would agree, if you check any of keywords like best*** reviews for Amazon, you not gonna find a single homepage with lots of backlinks in top 10. All top 10 internal pages with any links from domains with lots of content on topic.

It's true you can rank single page websites without having getting into trouble with Google. But for PBN, it's another story. Single pages should not be applied when creating a network of pbn sites. As much as possible you need to make it look like a natural website.

Assume we have 1000-2000 hand-crafted essay plus images and video on each page.
What's the minimum page do we need to make it natural: 5, 10, or 25?

These are rare. not making big authority site is just couple steps back rather than going forward. google favores BIG sites with a lot of AUTHORITY.

if single page had positive UX (better than competitors) and was gaining backlinks continually over certain period of time then at some point it grew authority however its much harder to achieve it.

Can't agree more. However, it brings me to these questions:
    • Is building a large site easier (or less resources needed) than making small (not necessarily one page) quality site?
    • Let's say we spend same amount of resources for building 150 pages (authority?) site vs 10 pages (microniche?) site. Is it easier to rank the large one? If yes, is it related to interlinking or update frequency?

in what niche can you rank domains with 10 pages? maybe in 3rd world googles.

i dont think its worth creating multiple niche sites if they wont rank. better one big that will.

If this was concluded from your experience, I can safely assume that SEO is basically a competition of quantity, and Authority equals to established brand.

Hmm... I wonder if someday RankBrain will ever change the game.
I meant, if giant brands are already dominating the top SERP, then AdWords is only for small business.
That won't be good for Google, and for us (read: me) obscure entities.

if you are from "3rd world country" as I read in your profile then you probably have plenty of space to rank sites.

Yep, it's a no brainer to rank in my region. Conversion suck tho, since everyone is on Facebook 24/7.
