for the last year this site has been consistent at getting 300-400 unique visitors per day. For the last week or so that has dropped to ~100. This has the dropped the earnings for the site greatly.

I also noticed I lost a little over 1,000 backlinks using backlinkwatch. I'm not sure what happened. Sandboxed? Is there a way to find out exactly what went wrong?

Also, the keywords I have been targeting for a little over a year are usually not what shows up in awstats. Should I switch to those that are shown on the awstats panel?

Should I leave it alone and hope it bounces back or should I make some changes to the content, keywords, description, etc?

Sorry to hear man. I have had a similar problem too. I think it has something to do with the Google mayday update. Was it a long tail keyword that you were targeting.

I started a similar thread and quite a few people mentioned that there have been rumors that Google has been dropping sites off to make them pay for adwords advertising. That would be a nightmare if it was true.

Have you been tracking the number of results showing for that particular keyword in the SERP's. Like 2 Million or 3 Million or whatever. Have you seen any major changes to that. Start monitoring that to see if it changes drastically over the next few days.

It could be some sort of an update or a big shake up of what they want to show in the SERP's. I am really hoping that it is an update and things will return to normal soon.

Dont feel so bad, one of my websites is #1 for a colon cleanse product from MHealth. Amazingly it has made $24 in the last 6 months. At that position i should be hauling in the dough but im not. Thanks to MH and their constant stealing that is.

It bad enough MH is taking all the PPC sales they also reap the rewards of sales from websites that are sitting in the #1 position and stealing those sales too.

Gary McNeily is a scum bag.

Sorry to see your site falling.

Yes, it was a long-tail keyword. Most of them are on the site.

I haven't been tracking them in the serps. I probably should be though. Yea, if it returns to normal that would be great.

I would say give it a week or two to see if it comes back instead of making changes immediately. That way, you will be safe it was only temporary. I acted in haste and switched around a lot of content after panicking and wish that I hadn't done that. But who knows, maybe it will help me come back stronger. I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

This is not difficult to test. Just clone the product page on your own server for 1 week and see how many 'orders' you receive. Send all successful orders to an "out of stock" page. Start a thread in one week letting us know how it goes.

I have had similar problems, A site I have has over 200k urls to its sitemap , which in webmaster tools shows 70k indexed yet suddenly 3 weeks ago now theres only 7k listed when doing a site:domain.com search, massive drop in traffic, don't know why theres such a discrepency between the 2 but clearly web tools is not right.

If you weren't doing anything shady then perhaps you should check out your major referrers. Maybe there is competition, maybe you slipped from a good position to say a less click thru one. I read once that once you slip out of top 4-5 your clicks decrease to almost nothing.

Bingo.. do what that guy said above. See whats going on in the SERPs. Also check to see what happened to those links. Maybe a spam cleanup took place and with it took your links? 1000 links could easily disappear from a forum signature link for example.

Do you continue to build links to the site?

If so, wait it out about a month and the mojo should come back assuming the other stuff mentioned above are all non-factors.

duplicate content or auto content is one of the reason of site falling down. however in your case It might be that the sites from where you have got backlinks must be spamming links and hence google stop rating those sites...
