I've been lurking around the forum for a long time now, even before I created an account. I've built some websites here and there. Some were a failure, while others did good for a while. However, I didn't really feel all that connected to these sites because most of the time, I'm either outsourcing the content, or writing content about something I didn't want to write about. I even did have some interests in the niches that I've gone into, but never really had a full grasp of it.

This time around however, I'm going to focus on the niche that my career is headed towards which is art and design.

A Little Brief Introduction About Myself

I'm a 21 year old student currently finishing my junior year and will be stepping into my senior year soon. A few years back, my government sent me out to one of the top art schools in US under a full scholarship to major in Visual Effects, which is indeed my dream career and field to be in. However, after this period of 4 years, I will have to go back home to serve the country for 3 years.

A few nights ago, I was looking at my class schedule and it shocked me that I only have 4 quarters left (about a year and a half) before I will have to go back home. This was when I knew I had to take this opportunity before it goes away.

    Project Details

This is going to be a purely white hat authority site. Thanks to one of the members here BHW (who doesn't want to be disclosed), I was able to snatch a really good expired domain with fairly good metrics that is related to the art and design field.

For content, I will write out of my own experience as an artist. Also, I will be reaching out to fellow classmates and professors to give their input. The school where I go to also brings in world known digital artists very regularly, so I will be meeting up with them and requesting interviews or guest posts on the blog. Thus, the content will be purely top notch, no fluff.

I've also partnered up with a close friend who is an animator that has her blog of her own. She's a master networker with hundreds of connections in the arts and design industry. Hopefully, she can get this site to lift off the ground with some social media promotion. She will also be proofreading my articles and editing them.

This is going to be a long term project but this first one and a half years that I have left in college is going to determine whether or not it succeeds or fails. And the only thing that can make this happen is me and reaching out to these people that have actual experiences and also writing out these quality content.

I wish this to be a life-long project that will serve as a platform for artists to share their thoughts. In terms of monetization, I'm really not thinking about it at this point. But what is sure is that I will be collecting emails for now. My main goal with this website is to serve quality content, and have a site I can be really proud of.

However, I'd like to note that I'm also working on two other unrelated website for monetization. I know this will be a lot harder to handle especially when school starts in about two weeks, but I'd rather die trying than not doing it. Plus, I'm doing great in school and hopefully with some proper time management, I'd still have some time to reenergize at night.

    What I've Done So Far

    • added one 1.8k word article
    • created social media pages (will be promoted once the site is fully up and running)
    • ordered a logo design (I know sounds ironic since I'm an artist, but that isn't my forte)
    • installed the essential plugins for wordpress (Wordfence, Yoast, EWWW, 404 redirect, akismet)
    • linked all accounts (GSC, Analytics etc)

    To do:
    • pick a premium theme
    • add About, Contact and Privacy pages
    • reach out to classmate that's attending DragonCon. (She has 10 years of DragonCon experience!!), see if she's interested in an interview or a guest post.
    • find more topics to write on and just write my heart out

I know that a journey like this is very difficult to replicate because it's very personal. But I do hope that BHW members can take away some good information from it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll be sure to respond. I'd also appreciate any feedback or suggestions that can make this journey better.

I'll update this thread whenever I make an update on the site.

Thanks so much BHW for everything!
    -QoH

Don't bullshit your self you don't have to serve that country. You can just go to a 3rd country and live there. So do that and become a full time IMer.

Naa, it's part of a legal contract. Plus I don't want to be a full time IM-er at the moment, in the future yes but not now. I really wish to work in the visual effects industry, at least for a couple of years first. It's been a passion that I've had since I was very young.

    Thank you guys!

@enovator, not for this site though. But for the other two, I do outsource them to someone that does it for $2 per 500word article. Of course, I'll have to go in and make some edits on my own. I've had no luck with fiverr article writers recently. Most of them are either really bad or use those weird unicode hack to deliver their "unique" articles :/

    Update 9/2/2015

Picked out a theme from StudioPress. I've always been fond of the Genesis Framework and the speeds I get with it. Also added static pages: contact, privacy, and TOS. Took a little longer than expected since I had to do it for the other 2 sites I'm working on as well. Just didn't want the privacy and TOS to be the exact sames ones for each site since all 3 sites are hosted on the same server. Mixed and matched a couple of generated TOS and PP's to get something that's a little more unique per site.

Received a draft from the designer for the logo. Looks stunning! Can't wait for school to open to start meeting more artists and getting their opinion and stuffs.
