Can anyone link me a thread where they go over how to do tags, meta stuff, just the basics of SEO.

I read the threads in the sticky and they don't seem to explain how to do it - is there a guide for onpage SEO for complete novices around here?

It tells me what I should do, but I can't actually do it unless I know how.

I currently do not know how to make a meta description or anything like that. That's what I'm looking for: a beginners guide to doing onpage SEO

You should learn basic HTML. I highly recommend code academy. And if you're using WordPress you can use a plugin like Simple Meta-Tags or SEO Yoast to do all your onpage SEO also. Onsite SEO is very easy. Put your keywords in your: meta-title, meta-description, H1 tag, and once in your text. I usually optimize my pages for 2 keywords at a time, so "Keyword1 | Keyword 2" in the 3 places I just listed.
