Do Old EMD domains still hold some value ?

It may hold some value but EMD domains lost its value.

If it is for local SEO then it still works and it might also be useful for other niche as well.

You will know if you start to work on it.
Do you mean domains like this?
service-city.com
servicecity.io
serviceintown.net

To make an EMD work, you need to ensure you’re sharing high-quality content.

EMDs do work for some and EMDs don't work for some.

It all depends on your content, authority and other SEO factors.

Having a keyword is good and it depends on how you use them.

I have an EMD and it's ranking #38 for the keyword. I have not done any kind of SEO. Even the content sucks. Just added a WordPress theme and some generic content.

Do Old EMD domains still hold some value ?
Yes, Exact Match Domains (EMDs) still hold value, but not as much as they did years ago. Google cracked down on low-quality EMDs in 2012, but they can still work well if done right.

yes of course it is high demand in local SEO or local business.

Do Old EMD domains still hold some value ?
Yes. why not?

But IMPO I believe branded domains are having more value in future. Because in future SEO is changing based on more reputation. So EMD can be in anyone's hand. but brands? brands will change things in SEO.

Entity based EMDs work really well for some low comp keywords.

The old school "makemoneyonlinetoday.com" style doesn't work.

An EMD anchoring a few entities in a longtail like velvetwithoutbuttermilk.com to rank a MNS for "red velvet cake recipe without buttermilk" 720m/s doesn't hurt.

Legacy EMDs in the tech/entertainment space are moderately valuable if they have a clear history, relevant backlinks, or a reasonable niche. They work best as redirects or microsites in conjunction with quality content and ethical SEO. However, they are far less effective than fixing technical issues and building authority through content and backlinks, especially in terms of avoiding being left out of search results.

Old EMDs can still have some value, especially if they have clean backlink profiles and good domain history. But they’re not a magic bullet anymore — content quality and relevance matter way more now. If you’re using an old EMD, make sure to focus on building authority and user experience to really benefit.
