Hello!

I am working for a company which offers a 'Metal Finishing' service as my college final for a marketing class here in college.. How can I see what potential customers this company could reach?

I have no knowledge of this niche, my professor has not given us any information on the types of customers they want to get (they gave us four companies they currently have for customers... but that doesn't give me anything valuable)

Is there a way to look up which companies need metal finishing work done...? I just figured I would ask you genius's!

Thanks a ton already for taking time out of your schedule to read this.

have you tried craigslist and yellowpages ?

Your professor gave you 4 customers of the business you are working for - just find other companies like those 4. They would all be potential customers.

A few other ideas:

Find competitors of the company you work for and see if they have testimonial sections on their websites.
Check those companies out on Twitter and see who they follow and who follows them - always a good source of potential customers
Find out what the trade publications are for Metal Finishing industry and read them
Get on Linkedin and join Metal Finishing groups
Use Google and research the Metal Finishing industry - that'll give you lots of ideas.

And by the way, it doesn't take a 'genius' to figure this out.

I have. Those results are of the metal finishing companies.. I want to find out which companies (like an example company he gave us is a lighting company.. so I'm pretty sure that company needs the metal part that you put into the actual bulb finished.... which is what the company I am working for would be providing.) I want to know within a certain radius at what companies require metal finishing to be done in order to make/sell their product.. get what I mean by that?

Beautiful! Thank you for this insight. I have already checked out Twitter; the company I am working for is the only one I can find (I received a list of 5 competitors to that store and none of them have LinkedIn, Twitter, FB, or anything.. but my company I am working for does.. just nothing impressive!)

Very helpful Thanks for that
