[OFFLINE JOURNAL] Full On SERIOUS Business! Offline Journey NO MESSING! Photos inside!

So how much postage was required for each? Did go to the counter have them do each one individually or did you use an automated machine like some post offices have?

Ok so the postage was $1.89 per box. Sent first class. Could have sent it second for a bit less but didnt. Second class now days is pretty much the same as first class now. I just bought the value of stamps I needed, it was only 2 stamps per box. Only took 5 minutes standing in the corner stamping them up. Anyway its all out! Ahhhh
Lets wait and see what happens

LOL nice bag! :)

Haha its good right! It seems like its made just for this. A perfect fit for my boxs!

such a quality post. I sure hope you continue to update this. If you dont, well what a waste of a awesome thread!
Dont worry, I wont be disappearing;)

I bet the post dude/girl was like WTF!!!!!!!!!!

You might want to wait at least a week after the packages are delivered. Give the business owners a chance to read it (next week is July 4th too). Also, the ones that call you are very interested and you can start with a higher price.

For $150 a month I'd think you were a scam or someone I could take advantage of. You want to start charging like $75/hr to make a good profit. Start your pricing at $1000 to $2000 a month depending on how much you think they can pay. Let them talk you down to $500-$1000 so they think they're getting a great deal from an expert.

Great thread! Im working on the same method, the pictures you posted really helped a lot.

I'll be using report binders and boxes(thanks to you), i initially planned to send 2pages and just put them in an envelope, but those report binders sure add some professionality and the box make it hard to miss.

I got some questions, if you dont mind to answer them.

1. I assume you've had this planned before the current merging of Google + with Google places,
What effect does this have/had on your services?

2. In the sales letter you mention that they dont appear on the 1st page, do you guarantee first page for your customers? And what if they get small improvements (from 4th page to 2nd page), that still wont have much effect on their business. How will you keep them satisfied?

3. What would your reaction be if someone calls you back and asks if your service would get them on 1st page?

4. Did you 'test' your service out before offering them?

Thanks in advance :)

1) Yes I did, however it doesn't effect anything. This is because most of the businesses either had NO places set up and the ones that DID it was just SOOO BAD. No info, no pictures, some didnt even link to the website. There where a couple that were well done, but still they were not showing up due to citations missing and just lack of seo. So after I fix up the broken profiles and get things in order that will be enough to give a massive boost. Dont forget im working with very localised keywords, not big city keywords so minimal competition so once you get your image in shape you will be fine.

2) Even though I dont say to them "I will get you on page 1" that is the goal and the aim otherwise there really is not much point (unless they start getting loads more traffic from my boost without even needing to be on page 1) but like I said, such a specialised localised keyword that I personally dont feel like theres going to be any problem.

3) I would say yes, like I just explained above. Also a lot of the page one results are the directory website like 192 etc which are pretty useless. Just make sure the websites tags are in order and do a bit of seo and spring cleaning and they will be page 1.

4) Not for what im offering exactly, but my partner and I have done work over the last 6 months for a small bike shop in London and we are on page 1 now for many keywords. Including "vintage bikes" (without quotes, UK though not globally)

OK EVERYONE LISTEN UP.

THIS MORNING AT 11AM I GOT MY FIRST AND ONLY CALL FOR TODAY

I was eating my breakfast and skype was not signed in so he left a voicemail. I looked up the number and it was one of the plumbing firms, with a sleek website. Before I listened to the message I was thinking..."oooh this could be a good one, they look quite big".

Here it is

Hello, this is ****. I've just received, a piece of sh*t in the post from you. In a box, which has sealed up my post box. Its useless, its terrible, if you really wanted customers I wouldn't be sending out fu*king boxs to them. Its pissed me right off because my post is now all over the floor. You would never get a thing from me regardless of where you think you might get us on an internet website or whatever. I would stop sending these boxs out. Its a fu*king piss take.

Well there we go. 1 down 49 to go.

Honestly whatever, all were doing is contacting people who have a website who might be interested in getting more exposure. Do I feel bad? No. Do I feel weird and "shook up"? Kind of, but anyone would after hearing that for their first call ever, but I know what im doing is fine and if he is more interested in his post box that what I can provide him then hes missing out.

I did think after I had made them all that maybe I should focus on the more "business" like company's. Accountants, Lawyers, Salons etc. I dont know if a builder or a plumber would appricate this / be the right person for this. But then again theres big firms out there that put in big ads. So I guess maybe if going to target builders plumbers etc maybe choose the more well establised branded ones? Although like I said its my first one, lets see what anyone else has to say.

Whats anyone's else experience with builders and plumbers etc?

+rep for supermat007 , seriously this thread is precious.
With this kind of planning, prep work and perfection ,I wish you will end up as an example for "Secret of Success" !!!
Reminds me of a proverb :
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe."

one friendly suggestion no hard feelings:
A customer with little bit of surfing knowledge will analyze about you with the brand name or webpage you mentioned on letterhead in Google, make sure your webpage is decent enough and ranks on Google for this kind of service / the way you have branded as "local business online helper" - for your locality.

Best luck Buddy ! I am a newbie , hope I'll come across many such threads in BHW .
Thanks !!!This thread is an eye opener for my lazyness :)

Actually ranking your own site is pointless in this type of work. I have website, I have selected the correct keywords for my site, however... it's not ranked at all in the SERPS. And the main reason is that it's for business owners who would like to read up on the type of services I offer. That's the only reason why I have my website. And matter of fact that is exactly what I would tell business owners if they ever ask me.

But, I do have other websites which I work on ranking. So if they wanted proof I have other sites I can show them.

OOUCHHHH. Yeah there are always assholes out there that just are too dumb to know any better. Matter of fact, you just weeded out the one that will probley not pay you much or have problems in the future. What does a guy that plays with dirty water know anyways :p Don't let it bother you. Keep on going man.

Yo......you should call him up and request services from him. Clog up your toilet, take a mean crap or something and let him clean it out. That would be hilarious if that every happen.

Kudos for your first call! Sorry he was a douche! But I feel for you.

Construction companies generally have money to spend but are tight wads. Potential client I had recently couldn't grasp through his thick skull that what I offered him was cheaper than the $1000 a month he was spending on radio advertisements that wasn't bringing him squat and that he would get a good return on investment but ah well. We win some we lose time.

Don't give up good sir!

Great thread supermat. The guy that left you the message is an idiot. He probably just felt insulted because he thinks he's getting top notch quality from whoever does his online stuff now. You'll get plenty of good clients with your method so don't stress that jackass. Good job.

I don't think he was an idiot honestly. I believe he had a legitimate complaint about his mailbox getting blocked. Unfortunately, he should have been complaining to the mailperson who clogged it, not supermat.

Well, look at it this way; your package did impress someone enough to make a phone call.
I'm sure you'll get your clients

I actually think that ranking your own site in your industry speaks volumes for what you can do for the customer. IOW, I can actually hear the customer asking "if you can't rank your own site, how do you expect to rank for mine?" And I think that's a legitimate concern. Of course it won't be in the plumbing or construction or legal profession. You could actually use it as another page in the package to say "see, I say I can do it because I CAN do it for my own competitive industry."

Just like I'd expect someone with a web design business to have a great looking website.
