I need to choose a domain name for an offline business that has nothing to do with internet marketing but the problem is that the best extensions have already been taken by other similar companies based in other areas across the world. So from the available ones I was thinking of either choosing .me, .org, .biz or .co.uk but with a hyphen. At first I liked the .me one but then again I'm not sure .me domains are any good? I've google'd and found quite a few different opinions, some say "The dot.ME domain is a powerful marketing package for many companies because it doubles as both a website and a brand." and others say "it's a re-incarnation of mobimania" and similar stuff. I seem to like the .me extension but the most important thing right now is the image of the company. So what do you think? Any advice?

    Any thoughts on this?
If anyone is interested, .me domain names currently seem to be on offer for $8.88 at NameCheap.

i always like to stick with .com because i think it is the most know, but to each his own.

Either should work if you put the time into it.

The .com is taken. I would go with co.uk if you're in the UK, .US if in the United States, .No if you're in Norway, etc.

Well from what I read on here, if you do your homework and SEO, you will be as good as anything.
And yes ShadeDream I would go with a .me, try it.
The way the Internet is growing I would grab it while you can.

Thanks for the responses. I would just like to add that I now already have the .co.uk one which is with a hyphen and I was wondering if .me wouldn't be a better option and more like a .com? This business doesn't have anything to do with Internet Marketing, SEO is not important too, I mean I'm not looking if the domain is going to be good for SEO or not I'm looking at the actual brand name, if .me would be a good domain name towards a company's image. The businesses clients come from word of mouth. Would that change anything?

My order of importance has always been
    1) .com
    2) .net
    3) .org
    4) all other extensions
I would grab .org without any doubts (.me is not even close to that; it stands for Montenegro and will always be for Montenegro no matter what). Unlike .me - .org is very professionally looking extension (a lot of big sites have got .org these days). If I were you - I would go with .org without any hesitations.

The business involves offline services and everything about it is offline, it's a small business not really an organization and well I like the .org extension but I don't think it would really be suitable for this type of a business.

If it has nothing to do with internet marketing, you have more choice to choose the extension. For example, you could choose ccltd based on your country or another tld although they are not popular. For name, because it is not related with IM, the use of hypen I think won't be a problem.

Some of you should really read threads before you reply to them with bullshit.
