After the last update my offline business was hit once again. Second site is down in a year. Although I am going to start another site(which will be whitehat lol) i was wondering something. For offline business Kw-cityservice does getting Adwords PPC to your site convert as well as ranking top 3 organic? I was #2 for my business organic before the update and business was good. Do you think I would get just as many/quality leads if I just paid for the adds? I know when I am looking for city service I never click on adds but look at organic. It could just be me though. Any input please!

I feel your pain man. I own a business with my bro and also do local lead gen for a few clients. This last year or 2 things have become extremely volatile. So naturally I'm trying to diversify my funnels as much as possible.

For as long as I've been doing lead gen, I've relied mostly on organic SEO cause the ROI was always better. And I mean exponentially better. With PPC sometimes we might spend $2,000-$3,000 just to close 1 job (which was the same as our profits). With SEO, at my prime, I was spending around $3 per closed job (no bs). So I've always gotten a better ROI with organic. Exponentially better.

With that said, I know guys who do well with nothing but PPC. But to be successful you have to make so many changes to your business model in general. Higher prices, no cherry picking leads, better follow ups, better everything. Organic SEO basically spoiled us. We were able to charge lower than our competitors, cherry pick leads, we didn't have to be up peoples ass all day every other day trying to close jobs. Which is another reason I've always preferred organic.

As we built up our reputation, our ROI on PPC did go up. At the same time, it still always felt like "gambling". When we threw money on adwords it felt like throwing money on a roulette table. When we threw it at SEO we knew we'd get an ROI.

Just that the problem these days it's much harder to rank. 2 years ago I could throw together a 100-200 page site, throw some PBN links at it and have it #1 in 6 weeks. And prior to the pigeon update I could do the same with G local. I'd outsource citations, drip feed reviews and rank those bitches real quick.

These days nothing is like that anymore. It's far less consistent. PBN links are getting sites "froze" in the SERPs. One of my main link suppliers (Ceasar SEO) is MIA. G local has been removed for more than 80% of our search terms. So what am I doing? I'm just going batshit crazy uploading geo-targeted YT videos, geo-targeted facebook pages, spamming craigslist, spamming local authority sites and forums. At the same time I'm disavowing links, cleaning up my sites and trying to figure out wtf is going on with Google.

I've stopped getting reviews on G local since we already have a shitload but G local no longer shows up.
I've slowed down a lot with PBN links cause they're no longer cracking the top 3.
I'm now battling with nj.gov sites hogging up the top 2 spots for my main money keywords, and worst of all these pages are irrelevant and haven't been updated in like 8 years.

We're still getting leads and making sales but we're no longer growing or expanding. If anything we've had to size down these past few months.

To make matters worse, every "local seo expert" I speak to, on here or WF seems to have no f##king clue what they're talking about. Cause most of these guys have no idea what's its like to run a real offline business nevermind a successful lead gen biz that relies 100% on commissions. Anytime someone asks about local seo I gotta see people parroting the same "fix your onpage" bs over and over.

Just go read the local SEO forum and you'll see what I mean. It's a disaster.

Thanks for the lengthy reply man! I know going to adw0rds is exactly what they want but, I know I cant keep changing my site after every penalty, for branding purposes. I might try some paid ads with FB, although I have no idea how that will pan out. I Know Im going to start a new site, we know how much that sucks since it was authority.
