Sorry for the "Theoretically" part, but im sure you will all agree. Besides, I was going to actually do this myself and THEN share with you guys but that would be a while.

    So heres my idea.

We all know cold calling is hard and that its a numbers game. Anything with offline is a numbers game really. The bigger your get your word out the better.

I remember when postcards where all the rage but slow (to research and write each one)

We also agree that if we where to hand write a personal letter and send it in a hand written envelope to our prospective clients that would be the best thing to do. I dont mean a hand writing computer font. An actual hand written letter. Like a love letter. But saying that they need a website and you can do it. bla bla bla.

We also agree that it would be high conversions. Everyone is going to read it, and most likely will call to find out more / to buy your service. Heck maybe even more than 30% conversion rate.

But again its still a numbers game. Imagine trying to write out 1000 personal letters. Personal like actually using the persons name and or company name, etc about them and their business. Then writing every envelope.

    BUT

What if this was all automated.

But instead of that you can just use a basic cnc with a pen attachment. You can even make your own cnc from printers and scanners. Or just get a small one, theres loads of kits.

Just write a template and leave a few blanks for the names etc scan it in, convert it to a cnc pattern. Outsource someone to collect all the names and companys from what ever area. Load it into a spread sheet. Click Go. Come back an hour later and you have your 1000 hand written letters and envelopes.

when I used to do direct mail long before the internet my response rate was
0.002% but that was generic printed mailshots.

Yeh but im talking a little more targeted than blasting out a million letters.

All the plumbers in an area. "I see your not on google, I can do it so your top for your location" or whatever. Sell them a website.

That's sure to reduce your replies.
You need to write them " I have 50 clients a month with leaking pipes."
Plumbers don't give a damn about being at the top of google all they care about
how many jobs they can get.

It's one of the biggest mistakes I see offliners make.
You have to talk to them in their language.

This is interesting! Great out-side-the-box idea ;)

My brother has his own CNC-maschine, and this for sure would raise the conversion-rate.

I will ask him tomorrow how fast this could be done, because I think this is where it lacks.
I have in anyway to go to him tomorrow because of some other stuff, so it fit's perfect.

Here is also someone different, who has done a machine like that. Look at the T-Writer for example:

A great deal of personalization can already be achieved with bulk mail. As far as handwriting goes the open rate between handwriting and printed handwriting fonts is negligible. Programming a CNC to write offers no advantage over a handwriting font. Both will be equally mechanical. What really matters is:

    1. Your data (list)
    2. Your offer

Of course lead generation and direct response are 2 completely different things. ;)

Also good to keep in mind is that b2b direct mail is a process, not a one hit winner like direct response b2c. Sometimes several mailings to a single list are required to get a baseline response rate to go on.
