I don't know if this is a new situation, but I've found that to suscribe is necessary to pay $1000 for signing up the site as a website/company to obtain also a shortened name based url.

    Any experiences on this?

I decided to create a personal account at last

Is pretty weird since I have gender and age (as a company ) but I can manage to work it out for free.

Considering China business is pretty complex in general even trying to do business im not sure to what extent could be undercost in general (apart from weibo itself). They say that landing a company in SV needs around $1M... but i'm pretty sure that landing in Beijing the sum is around that :p

You can use this amount if you can earn more than this.
I think its too much for that. Why do you not try MarketPlace of BHW to get more positive results at cheaper price?

Despite seeming like a crazy figure, many companies (such as hotels) are desperate to engage with the powerhouse Chinese market. They believe that a 1k payment is a valuable investment that would somehow give them an instant booth and "look more official" to potential Chinese customers.

    Seems crazy I know.

BTW I see people paying for blue accs in FB $500-$1000 w/o followers so it not the best deal but at least there is a deal (rather than FB policies)
