    Dear DeathByCaptcha Clients,

    We'd like to follow up on and apologize for Monday's and Tuesday's service instability. We regret the inconvenience and understand there is no worse time to have outages than at the beginning of a work week..

    Here's why the problem occurred. We made a server migration on Sunday that included several changes to the system. A few configuration problems caused the service to act in a sub-optimal way. We fixed the problem by rolling back some changes and modifying parts of the new architecture. During this event, some clients faced problems with their payments getting credited, others may have had problems submitting Captchas, and some others may have experienced some unscheduled maintenance outages.

    Please PM if you were sending volume to us during these two days AND were negatively affected during these days. If you were affected, as a token of your understanding we'll add 50% free credit of your submitted volume during these two days (Monday and Tuesday). ** For example, if you submitted 700 Captchas on Monday, and 500 Captchas on Tuesday, that's a total of 1,200 Captchas. You will thus receive a 50% credit of this amount, so 600 Captchas worth of credit to your account.

    Please PM me by Monday Aug. 27th the latest about this issue as we will be unable to issue credit after that date. Kindly include detail in your PM about how you were negatively affected.

    this sort of thing happens in software. at least they are willing to give a credit.

    I can't believe that I happened to run out of credits and bought new ones right as this happened. Talk about bad timing. Good customer service though.

    Perhaps about 10% of balance goodwill credits to everybody with credit would be in order rather than the PM&justify&beg approach.

    Ya. I think most of DBC customers were affected somehow or another. I happen to use the service on the day of the outage, and only 11/104 captchas were solved. I deserve some extra credits.

    Shit happens. It's a good service and they busted nuts to get it fixed. I was impacted too, however I monitor activity not just for captcha failures but network outages and other events that can impact running projects. I saw some issues and made the decision to suspend operations. That's just business. No PM will arrive from me requesting anything. Just keep pushing forward with the upgrades so that the service is stable and quick.

    Please consider that a) not all of our users were equally affected by this, as we were suffering for intermittent issues; b) we're also contacting every user who submitted CAPTCHAs within those days by e-mail to give them a compensation if they're up to. We're communicating this here to ensure every one gets to know (in case of missing the e-mail, etc).

    Nice to see you got a quick response, ive been emailing them for 3 days and cant get a response there or here from them. i dont even give a shit about free credits, im just trying to log into my account and cant.

    It is not effective as it was. So many invalid captchas. I have been trying it with SBbomber and getting very very low success rate with regards to the previous results(before your recent server update). I have tried it a while ago and I am not impressed with the results at all.

    The other issue is the overloading scenario. It is getting overloaded frequently. Though a week has gone by, I don't think that it has come back to normalcy :(

    Dude, I am kinda pissed. All day today captchas are incorrect. I have been watching them typed in incorrect on all my machines. I look in the control panel (like you said) and it says that I have zero incorrect. WTF? You had told me and it also states on your site, that we do not pay for captchas not solved.

    NOTE TO EVERYONE - YOU ARE IN FACT PAYING FOR CAPTCHAS THAT ARE NOT SOLVED CORRECTLY!!


    You need to either take that off your site or start reimbursing. Shady man. I will be switching over to Decap and starting a thread unless you can come up with a pretty good explanation. And please don't tell me that I am wrong because I have watched about 50 to 100 captchas solved wrong and it is showing a big fat zero for incorrect.

    Yep. Horrible horrible success rate. I am getting 50% success rate and being charged for all those incorrect captchas. Looks like DBC is going down the drain real quick

    We do not charge for CAPTCHAs marked as incorrect. It's up to you (or in this case your software/script) to report wrongly decoded images as incorrect. This is stated on our website.

    The software that you use must have the ?Report as incorrect? function implemented. This function will be responsible of telling our service if the CAPTCHA that we served was incorrectly decoded.

    You can also verify this through our website, by looking at your recent submissions and marking a CAPTCHA as incorrect (ideally and actual incorrect one) to test it out:


    • Log in our website.
    • Start submitting CAPTCHAs
    • On the menu, click ?My Account?.
    • Click on the link ?Previous Submissions? located under Upload a CAPTCHA section.
    • Take a particular image and click on ''Report as incorrect result''. If you refresh the page within a few minutes, you'll notice that the image wasn't billed to you.
    Please note: ?Previous Submissions View? is valid for 60 minutes.

    However, I've also checked on your Death By Captcha account and the vast majority of your images are currently being correctly decoded. If you wish, I could send you a screenshot with your recent submissions through PM.

    Well, than it is completely wrong. I have been watching the captchas being solved incorrect again and again right in front of my eyes. Why would I make that up? So i can get a few pennies?

    I have no idea how my software (zennoposter) is suppose to tell you which captcha is solved incorrectly. Obviously, it is not working. I have images for you if you need proof if you think that I am lying.
