Well, to most of you I am just another stranger BHW member, though some of you will know me as a SEO service provider.

I am from the southern state in India ( Kerala ) and I've got a SEO business here with registered office and 20+ employees. The business has been going well as usual.

Recently I got a call from a poor lady who got admitted in the nearby Government hospital, asking for some financial help. I am an active member of the local LIONS club, so that's how she got in touch. Her situation was really pathetic as her husband passed away few years back and her mom is taking treatment for cancer. She is left with 2 young daughters ( 8,12 years age ) and she has no one to help her. So, me along with a friend visited the hospital on a Monday morning and gave her some money to buy medicines. When we went there, they didn't even had Rs.100 ( $2 ) to buy food for her kid and it seems the nursing assistants gave them Rs.50 ( less than $1 ) and that's how they managed to get breakfast.

We gave her some money to pay for medicines and tests and came back to my office. But that small kid's sad face is haunting me since then.

Kerala is one of the most well-doing states in India and the common belief is that nobody starves here. Unlike other states, most in here have a job to take care of their daily needs. When I inquired further, I found out that there are many poor people admitted in nearby government hospitals who cannot even afford a regular meal a day which was indeed shocking. Not just the government hospitals, there are orphanages, old age homes etc that are managed by usually one or two good-hearted people who are really in need of food ( more than cash ) .

Today all our team members sat down and thought about ways to help them.

We are now planning to launch a small-sized link building service ( not here in BHW, at the moment and we are not taking money from anyone here.) to raise money to give food to 250 poor people each week. That's 1000 food packets distributed in a month. The team here is more than willing to take the extra work load ( we have enough business to keep them occupied at the moment ) and they are happy to contribute with their hard work.

We plan to price this service at $25/pack and $500-600 should be enough to get us 1000 food packets. Yes, 100% revenue ( not profit, we cover our costs ourselves ) from this service will go to this purpose and we ourselves will distribute the food packets on each saturday.

I am at the moment planning this service, but before I finalize anything, I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think it will work?

For $25 the people who order the service will get much more than what they have paid for. But I am planning to mention our purpose in the sales thread. I am a senior member at most of the sites where I put up this offer and I have enough reputation to convince the clients that this is not a scam deal.

But from a buyer's perspective, will they take it?

Ah no, I am an Indian, born and raised in India. Spent few years in Dubai then left everything behind and came back home ( my parents were alone and aged, so my presence was required ) .

Thanks so much for your kind words.

Go for it, Its a great idea to give back to the community.
The only problem I envisage is that if you make the service very good and over deliver for the $25
then this may effect other sales of your paid work and although charity is a great thing, you have to look after
your own business and employees first. Just thinking outside the box a little.....

That's a bloody nice idea. Just give people some nice photos and a blog to follow so they have faith in you. When I hear India + Charity I think its some sort of a scam, so just give some proofs and I'm sure loads of people would be more than happy to donate money and get SEO work on top :)

Thanks so much for your suggestion.

When we launch this, it won't be open forever. At the moment we aim to give 1000 food packets a month, so we know how much it costs ( I still need to talk to few local restaurants about this ). Let's say the total cost comes to around $500. In that case we close the offer as soon as we reach that amount. We will reopen again in next month. So, it's not a "take unlimited amount of orders" kind of service I am planning. Hence it won't affect our usual sales ( I hope :) )
Yeah, you're right. There are lots of such scams taking place. Yes, we will take photos and keep a blog active with weekly updates.

    Thanks so much!

Well I say go for it now you have explained the model.
And I wish you every success, ps I would start a thread in BHW before anywhere else
as this community seems to be the most caring about social issues and actually
likes to help people, unlike some forums I could mention.

I bet it would work. Though the general perspective associated with such things is scam, but I am sure you can come up with something great. We all have a small life and each one of us have a choice to spend a normal life and die or do great things and write our names in hearts of millions of people. Use your knowledge, money and resources to serve the society. But, at the same time, keep working harder. It's my personal experience that we get many many times in return if we help a needy. And, since you're helping a plethora of needy people, so I am sure the almighty will bless you and shower all His love upon you. It always feels great to come across noble-hearted people like you.

Great idea and all the best wishes for your success. I think your clients would go for it, and it'd only take a couple pictures of you, your office and distributing the food for any skeptics.

This is indeed a noble venture, I had intention of initiating a non profit as well but it is not that simple of a task in governed countries. I do have a question where will you be getting the food packs? I may have an idea.

Thank so much for all the positive comments. Really appreciate it.

Yes, you're right, nothing better than seeing the smiles of the poor kids/old aged.

This is what we aim to achieve ---> convert SEO/links/Google rankings to food for poor :)

Sure, I will first finalize the service and then will talk to a mod about this. I am not sure if they would approve something like this. So, need to talk to them first.

Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

    Thank You!

Of course, we will setup a blog for this initiative and will post weekly updates. Everyone who order this service will get weekly emails with fresh update to this blog along with the stats on what has been done with their money. That way everything will remain as transparent as possible.

Thanks so much for pitching in.

We plan to get in touch with few local restaurants and make a long term arrangement with one of them. They will prepare the packets and keep it ready on all Saturdays and we will distribute it ourselves.

At the moment we are collecting a list places where such kind of help is most needed. I am in touch with a guy who runs a palliative care unit here. He said he will help us to choose the right places. Hopefully we will get started from next week onwards.

Needless to say, we are really excited to get started :)

Not sure how it works in India, but you should talk to an accountant/tax professional. If you register your efforts properly and keep good receipts, I'm sure there would be a tax break in there somewhere for you. Also, I see no reason why a mod would object to this. As long as you are delivering on your claims, what you do with the money you earn is your own business.
