If you do not have a signature, and you eventually want to have one ... you should make one even if it is a placeholder.

If you make a post ... and you have a signature when you make it, then whenever you change your signature it changes it on every post you've made with a signature.

But if you make a post without a signature, it will never have a sig on it (even if you later get a signature).

Its something to think about ... I got around 590 posts in before it occurred to make a sig, and my original 590 posts will never have a sig now. I should have made one when it first became available so my sig would be on all my previous posts ... but I don't have that option now.

Just something to think about for all you guys and gals out there racking up posts and thinking you would like to have a sig someday.

Yeah I thought long and hard about it, I like that avatar but soon enough I'll have a service I'll be offering and I want people to see who they're dealing with.

The pic is me and my pretty Filipina wife.

That's not completely true. I can't remember exactly how vBulletin works, but once in a while, entries of the database are updated (it might be manual). I used to think that this happened occasionally, and then the sig of all your previous posts would be updated at once. However, I just looked at some of my past threads.. and can't identify a pattern!

Look here. My first post is showing my current sig (which I updated 3 weeks ago). Scroll down a little, and my reply doesn't show the sig!

@Abstroose, so it randomly, slowly puts sig on past posts, which increases over time until maybe all your past posts get the sig? That will be very cool.

All I know is that from the time I made a sig, none of my old posts show a sig and all my current posts get changed instantly ... though I only have a few hours of observing it so it might change over time.

Regardless ... I think people will be good to throw a placeholder in there, because whichever ones already have a sig are instantly updated when you change it.

Abstroose suggested that its possible that over time, your old posts get filled in with your signature. Its been over 3 months since my last post in this thread, and I'm finding that none of my old posts without a signature have been updated.

So just a heads-up to everyone again -- if you ever want to use your signature in the future, you might as well start one now (even if it has very little information in it). If you don't, when it comes time that you do want a sig ... all your old posts will not update with a signature.
