Nuke the Sniper Competition

So I'm sitting here thinking about link, sniper sites, Google and other stuff.

Google has said in the past that there's nothing you can do to hurt someone else's ranking except in rare circumstances.

Well, I believe I've come up with a decent method...

Let's suppose that G-Man is coming out with "10 Ways to Bribe Google Employees for Top Rankings"

And let's supose that it's going to be released in ... 2 weeks.

Now, as you know, a lot of these affiliate releases are announced in advance which gives the snipers a chance to get some decent money.

They willl go out and get a good domain and then write a 'review' about the product.

They'll also get a few links to the site and - because it has low competition right now - they'll usually rank pretty decently - usually in the top 10.

But...being the evil person that you are, you realize this is the case and you don't want them in the top 10.

So how can we accomplish this?

    Actually it's quite simple.

    Sandbox them.

That's right, point a bunch of links in a short period of time at them and get them sandboxed.

They will get sandboxed and by the time they come back, the launch will be over and youy'll have capitalized on all that traffic.

You could do this if you just wanted to be evil too :)

Now, there are a few caveats with this method.

    1. You need to make sure that you are not pointing links to an authority domain. For instance, if they have a blogg on blogger.com, your links to them willi be unlikely to sandbox them.

    2. You do not want to do this too soon. If you do, there's a cchance they might get out of the sandbox before the launch.

    G-Man

P.S. Yes, I realize that you could just point the backlinks to yourself and work on your own ranking in this time but this is certainly more fun :)

Always focus on your own sites - make them better. Get more backlinks. Be smarter. Don't use your time on lame competitors. And if you do - remember to check their Page Rank before you start to hammer away.

I know for a fact that a Page Rank 3 domain can take almost any amount of backlinks. More fun could be to rank high for your competitors name and make a funny story around that. Often thought about doing that as a proof of concept with some of the SEO gurus in my country ;-)

The theory sounds good but it would be funny that instead of sandboxing, you actually increased their position ten fold and they managed to out rank you.

This would only work if it's a new domain and they're doing the sniping...otherwise they probably would not get sandboxed easily.

    It's a fun evil trick imo :)

You can also spam the hell out of Matt Cutts (head of Google's Webspam team) blog with your competitors site ;-)
