I've had a Tumblr blog for years and have grown it to 30K+ followers and on average 6K page views per day (according to statcounter). It's NSFW and even has personal content so I'm not interested in creating/registering a personal site. I like the anonymity of Tumblr. A couple of months ago I decided to see if I could make money with the site and added ExoClick with popunder and banner ads. It started earning much faster than I expects and was regularly bringing in $8 a day and hit a high of $27 one day. Once I contacted ExoClick and requested a payout via Paypal three things happened, I got my money (nice), Tumblr all of a sudden stopped supporting html popunder code and my eCPM went way down. In the last week my grand total in earnings is $2. Ugh. What's weird is my click count is still as high if not higher than normal.

I'm not using any bots or anything fancy. Just my own stuff and reblogs. Any advice on where to go besides ExoClick as they seemed to have changed the rules on me and Tumblr coincidentally stopped allowing my popunders.

Thanks,
jen

From my own experience trying to monetize Tumblr without your own domain is risky.
Your site doesn't have to be any less anonymous than Tumblr is, you just select Private WHOIS when registering the domain. Your info is relatively safe.

I decided to try another approach and play on the fact I have pictures and videos on another membership site of AFF. They appear to have an affiliate program that pays for membership joins. $50 the first day based on joins. I'll let you know how I progress.

If others have advice I'd love to know.

Thanks,
Jen

Try putting up some banners to our male enhancement offers. They convert very well with adult traffic.

I have a nsfw blog with around 50k. Maybe we can talk and do some work together?

Best way to monetize is directing traffic to crakreve. offers But mask your aff links with custom domains.

Ugh well that didn't go well. My Tumblr had over 20K hits yesterday and that must have raised some attention from the powers that be there. This morning.... No more Tumblr :10: I guess I got too greedy. What's sad is I had built up a Google hit on "tumblr sl%t" as the #1 rank and "sl%t mom" as #3. No more. Time to explore my own domain I suppose.

Try sending them an email, they sometimes take pity and reinstate your blog. But don't get your hopes high.

This is always worth a shot. I got 4 blogs unbanned last week. They responded saying "sorry that was an error with our system" and unbanned them.

yeah, tumblr is notorious for banning accounts. never trust them with a subdomain, always go with a domain for even remotely high traffic accounts so you can always keep organic\direct traffic to your site.

Don't you know you can buy domains for as low as $1? Godaddy coupon domains? :p

From the Tumblr Community Guidelines.

"Don't... create blogs with the primary purpose of affiliate marketing"

Tumblr REALLY don't like direct links to ANY affiliate program. Your own domain isn't the best way to go on Tumblr. It is the ONLY way to go. I think Amazon might be the only exception to this.
